Geraldine, HR Advisor

Head Office 

Over the years, Arnold Clark Automobiles has expanded and grown and today is the largest independent motor dealer in Europe. At present there are over 7,500 employees. To help manage the growing workforce, Sir Arnold has invested in a specialist function of the organisation and this growing Human Resources Department is based within the company's busy Head Office. Geraldine is an HR Advisor within this department and said, "I studied Human resources at Strathclyde University and some of the classes I took included; employee relations, business law, and strategic HR. I graduated from Strathclyde in 2002 with a BA in Human Resource Management."

"I started with Arnold Clark on 8th January this year in the Group HR Department and am employed as an HR Advisor. Before this I was working for a company called Paul Kennedy Ltd which is a wholesale jewellery company as the HR Co-ordinator and had been there for almost 3 years."

"I am really enjoying the diversity that this role at Arnold Clark brings, and as you can imagine the industry is very different to the jewellery trade!"

"With so many employees at Arnold Clark, there are different facets of the job, especially because of the diversity within each role. The company employs everyone you can imagine. There are Valeters, Parts staff, Vehicle Technicians as well as Administration staff, Electricians and of course Sales Executives. We even have our own in house Painters!"

Because of so much variety, Geraldine's duties are widespread, and as HR Advisor, she, along with her colleagues, are responsible for providing a service of guidance to staff and managers alike.

Geraldine said, "Working for Arnold Clark is really challenging. I've only been here 2 months but I love it! The hours can be long and you certainly need to be enthusiastic to do this job - and very organised. There is something new happening all the time and no two days are ever the same. I'm really enjoying the challenge and I've realised pretty quickly what a great company this is to work for; the packages and career potential are some of the best I've seen."
