About Motability - Eligibility Information

The Motability Scheme enables disabled people to exchange either their Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance or their War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement to obtain a new car.

Motability Scheme Benefits

Getting a new car with Motability is easier and more affordable than ever!

With the Motability car scheme you can receive:

  • A new car of your choice every three years
  • Insurance and personal accident cover for named drivers and passengers
  • Servicing, maintenance and repairs
  • Road fund licence sent directly to your home
  • Replacement tyres
  • 60,000 miles allowance over three years
  • Full breakdown assistance

These benefits remain in place throughout your three year contract, with a seamless transfer to your new car.

The Motability scheme has continued to improve year on year and in 2009 over 400 environmentally friendly models were made available under the scheme helping owners enjoy better fuel efficiency and higher mileage per gallon, in turn more savings when filling up the tank.

Am I Eligible?

If you receive the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance or the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement, then you could be receiving a new car every three years. Through Motability, you simply turn part or all of that allowance into the car of your choice with Arnold Clark.

Around two-thirds of Motability customers drive, but non-drivers can also receive a car as a passenger. Similarly, parents and carers can also apply on behalf of a child, with a disability, aged three and over.

If you would like assistance checking whether you are eligible for either the Disability Living Allowance or the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement, you should contact one of the following agencies:

For enquiries about the Disability Living Allowance (DLA), please contact Disability & Carers Service on 0845 712 3456 or visit the DirectGov Website.

For enquiries about the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement (WPMS), please contact Service Personnel & Veterans Agency on 0800 169 2277 or visit the Veterans UK Website.
