Machargs is now called 'Arnold Clark Motorstore', and is sporting the new Arnold Clark branding
The Arnold Clark Group are happy to announce that Europe’s largest vehicle showroom, Machargs, will now trade as Arnold Clark Automobiles.
Originally opened by W.S. Macharg, H.W. Rennie and A.E. Lindsay, Machargs (known at the time as Macharg, Rennie & Lindsay Limited), has been synonymous with high standards of quality and customer service since its inception in 1921.
The company propelled itself to success over a period of nearly 100 years and has developed strong roots with the local Glasgow community. Set against the backdrop of the iconic River Clyde, on South Street, Machargs couldn’t be in a better location for accessibility, putting it at the heart of the Clydeside area and contributing hugely to regeneration efforts.
Machargs, now one of Scotland’s most successful car dealerships, moved into the Arnold Clark group in the early 80s but continued to publicly trade as Machargs. The official move means that Machargs will now trade under the name ‘Arnold Clark Motorstore’.
Commenting on the move, Sir Arnold Clark said: ‘Machargs shares the same ethos as Arnold Clark in that we offer genuine value for money and we are excited to have the opportunity to officially have Machargs as part of our family.
Machargs will not move from its current location on South Street, which was custom built in 2006. The dealership is famously known as the largest car showroom in Europe with an impressive 3-storey complex with access to over 15,000 cars. The illuminated three-storey complex houses over 600 vehicles including Sir Arnold’s impressive collection of classic cars which are truly distinctive and ooze vintage class. It’s worth a visit just to catch a glimpse of them.
The refurbished dealership will showcase the new Arnold Clark branding and will become a flagship Arnold Clark dealership. The striking modern signage has already been used for the brand new Motorstore recently opened in Leeds.
