Test-driving your car of choice will give you a real feel for the vehicle and can help you decide if this is indeed the right car for you. However, there are a few things to keep in mind – both before and after you test drive. We have made a list of the most essential tips for test drives – check it out!

1. Book in advance

This one is a must. Branches can be very busy, particularly on weekends or bank holidays, so the best thing to do is plan ahead, phone a branch near you and book a test drive as soon as you can to avoid disappointment. Plus, this means that your chances of test-driving the exact car you want are higher! Make sure you don’t forget your driving licence.

2. Allow enough time

We all know how stressful a tight schedule can be. So, it’s important to allow enough time when you book your test drive as anything can happen. For best results try and book the test drive when you have enough time to spare – on your day off, or after work for example. The time it takes to complete the test drive will depend on the branch you have booked with.

3. Don’t hesitate to ask

You will have a salesman or a product genius in the car with you, so don’t shy away – ask for anything that is not quite clear. Enquire about the engine, suspension, steering, brakes, the clutch and the gearbox, whatever you need to know. From questions about the sat nav, to queries about fuel economy, we are there to help.

4. Really test drive the car

Don’t just drive around – try the braking, overtake a few cars and drive up hills. This will help you get a feel for the car and its abilities better. When booking your test drive, you can ask for either a city route or motorway – or both! Make the most of your experience by engaging all gears and driving at different speeds.

5. Don’t give up

If you absolutely loved the car when you read about it, but you’re not 100% sure how you feel about it after the test drive, don’t be discouraged! You can always book in and test-drive another car – and eventually, you will find the right one for you.
