For used Infiniti Q30 cars, choose Arnold Clark

The Infiniti Q30 is a premium hatchback, rivalling models such as the BMW 1 Series, the Audi A1 and the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. The model also shares a platform with the A-Class, offering appeal to those who want to break away from the norm. Alongside its sharp styling, it’s a reliable choice and boasts a strong list of safety equipment. These merits won the Q30 Euro NCAP’s Small Family Car award in 2015.

Infiniti Q30 updates and facelifts

Infiniti was launched in 1989 as the luxury subsidiary of Nissan. It came to Europe in 2009, and the Q30 was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2015. At the end of that year, the model arrived in showrooms, offering customers a choice of petrol and diesel engines. Front- and four-wheel drive iterations were also available.

The Infiniti Q30 was refreshed in February 2018. Changes included a revamped trim structure, with grades now consisting of Pure, Luxe and Sport. There were also a few tweaks to the equipment levels. Following the facelift in 2018, the Infiniti Q30 ceased production in the UK in 2019. The brand retired from Europe altogether the following year to focus on the Japanese and US markets.

Practicality and style of the car

As a practical premium hatchback, the Infiniti Q30 has a 368-litre boot. That’s plenty for a pair of medium-sized suitcases for a holiday, the weekly grocery shop or the kids’ sports kit. If you’re loading items that you want to protect from sliding around, there are handy tie-down points, and the wide opening ensures loading up is easy. In comparison the Mercedes-Benz A-Class offers 355 litres of luggage capacity. Like its rivals, the Q30 has 60/40 split folding rear seats which increase the space available.

Depending on which engine the Infiniti Q30 has, the model has different towing capabilities. The diesel engines provide up to 750kg unbraked and 1800kg braked towing capacity, while the petrol engines can tow loads of up to 720kg unbraked and 1200kg braked.

Running costs

Despite its premium nature, the Infiniti Q30 has very reasonable running costs. It occupies groups 12 to 26 for insurance, which is lower than the Mercedes-Benz A-Class (groups 15 to 32).

Choose a vehicle made before 1 April 2017 and road tax is as little as £20 to 35 per year thanks to the car’s frugal 1.5d diesel engine. Thereafter, the Q30 is taxed at the standard annual rate of £180 for combustion-engine cars.

How a used Infiniti Q30 drives

The Infiniti Q30 is available with a choice of two diesel and two petrol engines. The diesel range starts with a 1.5-litre unit that produces 108bhp and is mated to either six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic transmission. Able to get from 0-62mph in 12 seconds, this highly efficient engine returns between 67.3 and 72.4mpg on the combined cycle, making it perfect for long-distance driving.

The higher-powered 2.2-litre diesel comes with seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and a choice of front- or four-wheel drive. With an output of 168bhp, it reaches 62mph from a standstill in 8.3 seconds and delivers a combined efficiency of between 55.4 and 64.2mpg.

The entry-level petrol engine is a 1.6-litre unit that is paired with six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic transmission. The manual produces 118bhp, while the automatic has a higher output of 154bhp. Both options take you from 0–62mph in 9.4 seconds, and fuel economy reaches a combined figure of 50.4mpg.

Topping the petrol range is the 2.0-litre unit, which comes with seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and has an output of 208bhp. Whether you select front- or four-wheel drive, this variant accelerates from 0-62mph in just 7.2 seconds, and returns up to 45.6mpg on the combined cycle.

Features you can expect in an Infiniti Q30

Interior

Inside the Infiniti Q30 there’s space for a young family to travel in comfort. Not only do the front seats have plenty of space, the rear seats also offer enough legroom for all but the tallest adults. The Q30 has the width to accommodate two child seats, anchored to the standard ISOFIX points, so those with preschoolers can secure them safely.

When it comes to storage, there’s a well-sized glovebox, which can fit a 500ml water bottle, as well as generously sized door pockets. Some used models may have the optional cubby beneath the armrest too, adding a place to hide items out of sight.

The Q30’s interior delivers a feeling of luxury or sportiness depending on the trim level you choose. Whatever your preferences, there are thoughtful touches that ensure your comfort. For example, the seats support both your upper and lower back, relieving pressure and preventing soreness or stiffness after a long journey. There are also plenty of soft-touch surfaces and intuitive controls, meaning you’ll feel at home almost immediately.

Technology

The Infiniti Q30 comes with a standard seven-inch infotainment screen that supports Bluetooth as standard. It can be controlled with spoken commands or via the rotary dial located on the centre console. There are also three USB ports that enable you to connect and charge devices on the move. Stepping up to the mid-range Luxe trim brings a DAB radio and sat nav, while choosing the Tech editions (Luxe Tech or Sport Tech) means you can enjoy premium audio quality thanks to the ten-speaker Bose sound system.

Safety

The Infiniti Q30 was tested by Euro NCAP upon its launch in 2015. It received a full five-star rating, with an adult occupant protection score of 84% and a child occupant protection score of 86%. You will also find seven airbags in the model that are fitted as standard.

As the names suggest, Luxe Tech and Sport Tech trims offer the most advanced technology. Electrically adjustable front seats, for example, help you to find the perfect position and enhance the comfort on offer. There’s also an automatic parking function, which includes a reversing camera. This displays a view to the rear, helping you to manoeuvre and park more safely.
