What is the Kia Sportage GT-Line?

The Kia Sportage GT-Line has real curb appeal. With a spacious and tech-filled interior, the Kia Sportage GT-Line offers drivers a satisfying driving experience. This sporty yet practical SUV is part of the brand-wide GT-Line. GT stands for ‘Grand Tourer’. This model is designed to perform well over long distances at high speeds.

The Sportage GT-Line is a popular choice for growing families: three child seats can be fitted in the rear and there’s plenty of boot and storage space for luggage, shopping or prams. It competes well on the market and rivals other SUVs such as the Audi Q3 S line, Ford Kuga ST-Line and the Hyundai Tucson N-Line.

Kia Sportage GT-Line history

Kia launched the Sportage in 1993 and it has been through numerous design updates since. In 2010, designer Peter Schreyer introduced the signature ‘tiger nose’ grille to the Mk3, and the body kit became more streamlined, giving the Sportage a more SUV-like look.

The Mk4 was released in 2016, and two years later it received a facelift which saw the introduction of the Kia Sportage GT-Line. The new GT-Line trim level offered drivers several unique features, such as the hub cap design on the 19-inch alloy wheels or the glossy black front grille. This sportier look is what makes the GT-Line stand out from the rest of the Kia Sportage trim levels. Inside, the GT-Line offered drivers a choice of two-tone leather upholstery or black leather.

In 2021, the Mk5 came onto the market with a revised look, which included boomerang-shaped LED headlights. The equipment list of the GT-Line was also updated in line with the new iteration and featured a 12.3-inch infotainment system.

The Kia Sportage GT-Line is available with two 1.6-litre petrol engines, which each produce 148bhp. The manual variant achieves 0-62mph in 9.9 seconds, with a top speed of 113mph. While the automatic achieves the same in 9.3 seconds reaching a top speed of 117mph.

In 2022, Kia added two 1.6-litre hybrid engines to the Sportage’s engine lineup along with some minor style changes to the hybrid variant. One is a self-charging hybrid, which has a top speed of 120mph and reaches 0-62mph in 7.7 seconds. The other is a plug-in hybrid, achieving 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 119mph.

Where does the Kia Sportage GT-Line sit in the range

The Kia Sportage GT-Line sits above the entry-level 2 trim but sits slightly outside the traditional trim hierarchy as it is a performance trim. It comes with a range of advanced features which makes the GT-Line good value for money.

What features and equipment does the Sportage GT-Line have?

The GT-Line trim features 19-inch alloy wheels with a unique hub cap design, a gloss black front grille, rear privacy glass, chrome highlights around the vehicle and gloss black wheel arches. These features help to make the GT-Line visually distinct from other trim levels, giving it a sporty and stylish appearance.

Owners will find a well-built interior featuring high-quality materials that help to enhance the overall feel of the cabin. The seats are partial suede and leather upholstered and the driver’s seat features power lumbar support for extra comfort. The leather sports D-shaped steering wheel can be heated on cold mornings.

The GT-Line also features a 12.3-inch navigation display as well as wheel-mounted audio controls to reduce the need for the driver to take their hands off the wheel. The model also features Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and Bluetooth connectivity, a DAB radio with a six-speaker audio system and a USB port to connect any smart devices. Occupants can also charge their devices via USB charging points on the centre console and on the sides of the front seats.

Useful driving features on the GT-Line include lane keep assist and front and rear parking sensors with a reversing camera to help you park with ease. There is also forward collision avoidance assist which detects any objects on the road ahead. The GT-Line has Keyless entry.
