What is the Peugeot 208 Tech Edition?

If you’re looking for a supermini that’s packed with technology, the Peugeot 208 Tech Edition will fit the bill. As part of the award-winning Peugeot 208 lineup, this special-edition trim is all about smart tech features. It boosts safety by automatically detecting potential collisions at low speeds and has an intuitive infotainment system that can be controlled with your voice. Those seeking a compact car, packed with handy tech features, will find a good fit in the Peugeot 208 Tech Edition.

Although production of this model has ceased, you can still find used Peugeot 208 Tech Edition cars for sale on the market. This trim is a strong option in the supermini market, which stands up well against rivals like the Ford Fiesta Active X, Renault Clio Dynamique Nav and Volkswagen Polo Beats.

Peugeot 208 Tech Edition history

The Peugeot 208 was revealed to the world at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show as the successor to the popular 207. With a more angular body and upgraded interior features, the Peugeot 208 quickly established itself as successful within the supermini category – and a worthy replacement to the 207 after its production ceased in 2014.

A second generation of the Peugeot was released in 2019, which included a fully electric option. The car’s weight was reduced and features such as Peugeot’s i-Cockpit infotainment system were added.

The Tech Edition was released as a special edition alternative to the flagship GT Line trim for the Mk1 Peugeot 208 and 308, with a focus on top-spec connectivity and safety features. With five engine options and a range of optional extras, such as an electric sunroof and autonomous parking capabilities, this limited-run trim had high customisation potential.

Where does the Peugeot 208 Tech Edition sit in the range?

The Tech Edition sits just below the flagship GT Line trim. As the name suggests, this trim focuses on handy technology that makes your driving experience even better. A well-equipped infotainment system and semi-autonomous safety features will keep you secure and entertained even on long journeys.

What features and equipment does the 208 Tech Edition have?

The Peugeot 208 Tech Edition looks sleek, sitting on 16-inch matte black alloy wheels. Exterior-wise, features like the chrome, heated door mirrors are both eye-catching and practical. You’ll also spot handy cornering assist fog lights that boost visibility in gloomy conditions.

There are lots of useful tech features that come as standard with the Peugeot 208 Tech Edition. A colour reversing camera and rear parking sensors help you back into even the tightest spaces safely. Some cars also have the Park Assist pack, which means the car can parallel park autonomously.

When it comes to infotainment systems, the Tech Edition houses a sat nav, connectivity and entertainment within a seven-inch touchscreen. You can control it via touch or voice, giving you a safe option for staying connected and in control when driving. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink let you play your own music, and depending on your phone, can even read out texts and control navigation through voice commands. Get even more out of the system with a subscription to Peugeot Connect, which offers a range of features from navigation to petrol station alerts to weather reports.

The Peugeot 208 Tech Edition also has plenty of comfort-focused features. There’s dual-zone climate control and air conditioning, allowing passengers with different preferences to stay at the right temperature. You won’t get blinded by other cars at night, as the rear-view mirror has an auto-dimming function.

In terms of safety, the Tech Edition has one very clever feature. The Active City Brake can automatically stop your car in an emergency – if you’re driving under 20mph – or dramatically slow you down to prevent or reduce the impact of a collision.

The Peugeot 208 Tech Edition is available with a 1.2-litre petrol engine as standard, with a choice of a five- or six-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearbox. It has 82bhp in the five-speed manual configuration, taking the car from 0-62mph in 13.5 seconds, and 110bhp with either of the six-speed gearboxes. It's also available with a 1.5-litre diesel engine, which has 100bhp and has a five- or six-speed manual gearbox.
