Renault overview

Louis Renault and his brothers founded Renault in 1898. This acclaimed French automaker evolved from small car racing to developing production models for consumer purchase. The company became nationalised in 1945. It was then that it became the Régie Nationale des Usines Renault (RNUR). Wider success for the manufacturer followed soon after when it launched the iconic 4CV. The 4CV was dubbed the first ‘small car for everybody’. It was this model that led to significant growth of the company throughout the 1970s.

Over the next few years, Renault made a return to motorsport and became a leading presence in Formula 1. The manufacturer considered a potential merger with Volvo but ultimately re-privatised in 1996. Soon after, Renault and Nissan formed the Renault-Nissan Alliance. Later taking ownership of the Romanian brand, Dacia. In 2016, Mitsubishi joined the alliance. It was then that the group focused on developing the next generation of electric vehicles.

Today, Renault is one of the world’s foremost producers of vehicles for every motoring need. Its passenger vehicles exude chic French design qualities. The marque also embraces innovation and sustainability through its implementation of the very best in hybrid and electric technology. Similarly, their selection of commercial vehicles, such as the iconic Trafic, are reliable and well-equipped.

Popular Renault models

The Renault Clio is arguably one of the manufacturer’s most recognisable models. Launched in 1990, it is renowned for its compact dimensions and stylish aesthetic. The Clio also comes packed with intelligent technology. The latest versions of the model embrace the manufacturer’s acclaimed E-Tech hybrid engines. These engines provide cleaner and more efficient performance. The Clio has offered and continues to offer drivers a competitively priced hatchback.

Renault launched the Captur in 2013. The Captur is a crossover option that builds on the design of the Clio while incorporating SUV sensibilities. The second-generation Captur hit the roads in 2020. Like the Clio, the Captur features E-Tech hybrid solutions alongside the latest in driver assistance and infotainment technology. With an elevated ride height and increased interior space, it is also ideal for those with a growing family.

To build on the success of the Captur, Renault introduced the Renault KADJAR in 2015. The Kadjar is a more traditional family SUV within the Renault lineup. The model is built on the same platform as the hugely popular Nissan Qashqai. The Kadjar provides generous cabin space and comes well-equipped as standard. A selection of petrol and diesel engines are available, offering refined and efficient performance.

Sleek and striking in appearance, the Renault Arkana fits into the distinctive coupé-SUV model class. This is a segment usually reserved for vehicles produced by premium manufacturers. Whether as a petrol or hybrid, the Arkana exudes quality, mixing style with practicality in a head-turning design.

The Renault Megane has become something of a mainstay in the manufacturer’s lineup. The model has spanned four generations and a history dating back to 1995. The range has included various body styles such as estate, two-door coupé and five-door hatchback over its lifetime. With Renault’s drive towards cleaner motoring, the Megane has adopted E-Tech hybrid engines, while an RS hot hatch adds a performance option with sporting appeal.

More than 1.6 million Renault Trafic models have been sold since the launch of this light commercial vehicle in 1980. The Trafic provided drivers with a more car-like experience without compromising on practicality or resilience. Long and short wheelbases, varying load heights and different options for passengers enable the Trafic to continue to dominate the UK commercial vehicle sector. All-electric options are available for cleaner motoring.
