What is the Škoda Octavia vRS?

The Škoda Octavia vRS sits at the top of the Octavia range. It was introduced to the market in 2000, three years after the Škoda Octavia was launched. Available with a range of petrol and diesel engines and as either a saloon or estate version, the Škoda Octavia vRS provides drivers with high-performance and efficient engines, coupled with the large boot the Octavia is known for.

The Octavia vRS also comes with a sporty body kit and high-quality interior giving the model an upmarket feel. The Škoda Octavia vRS rivals other performance cars on the market such as the BMW 3 Series M-Sport, the Volkswagen Golf GTI and the Ford Focus ST.

Škoda Octavia vRS History

Launched in 1997, the Škoda Octavia was the largest car in the Škoda line-up at the time and performed well on European markets. The Mk1 came with a range of diesel and petrol engines, with the highest-performing engine delivering a top speed of 136mph and achieving 0 to 62mph in as little as 8.4 seconds.

In 2000, the Mk1 Octavia vRS, standing for Victory Rally Sport, launched. It was the performance-focused version of the Octavia. This had a top speed of 145mph and achieved 0 to 62mph in 7.8 seconds.

The Mk2 Škoda Octavia was launched in 2004 at the Geneva Motor Show. Featuring a redesigned front bumper to give the car a more upmarket look. The interior of the Mk2 Octavia also received some subtle changes, such as aluminium highlights located on the dashboard and door panels.

A year later in 2005, Škoda released the Mk2 of the Octavia vRS. Along with some subtle design changes, a new 2.0-litre TFSI engine was installed and became the sole engine for the Octavia vRS model. Thanks to the turbocharged engine, the Octavia vRS saloon could achieve 0 to 62mph in 7.2 seconds, with the estate taking only 7.3 seconds, and had a top speed of 147mph.

The Mk2 Škoda Octavia received a facelift in 2008, with changes to the front and rear lights and interior improvements. In 2013, the Mk3 was launched for both the Škoda Octavia and the Škoda Octavia vRS.

The Mk3 Octavia vRS received some further design tweaks and offered improved performance thanks to engine updates which helped it achieve 0 to 62mph in 6.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 154mph.

The Mk4 Octavia vRS then arrived in 2020. It received some subtle design exterior changes including a new front grille, LED headlights and vRS badging on the front. Inside, the vRS was also tweaked to give it an upmarket feel. The Mk4 achieves 0 to 62mph in 6.4 seconds and has a top speed of 155mph.

Where does the Škoda Octavia vRS sit in the range?

The Škoda Octavia vRS sits at the top of the Octavia range. Offering drivers high-performance engines and good handling, the vRS sits above the SE First Edition, which is the flagship trim for the Škoda Octavia.

What features and equipment does the Octavia vRS have?

The Škoda Octavia vRS sets itself apart from the competition through the range of features and technology that can be found on the vehicle. On the inside, drivers will find plenty of sporty and premium features that help to enhance the driving experience of the Škoda Octavia vRS. Heated sports seats in the front, upholstered with suede highlights, diamond stitching and red stitching highlights give the interior that sporty look while also providing plenty of comfort for drivers on long journeys.

The cabin features high-quality materials, including aluminium pedals, soft-touch plastics on the dashboard, an Alcantara sports steering wheel with red stitching and black cloth used on the headlining. The Octavia vRS boasts a customised infotainment system with a 10-inch display and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with vRS-specific graphics.

The exterior is styled to give the Octavia vRS a premium, sporty look. 19-inch alloy wheels come with a unique hub cap design, the front and rear bumpers are also unique to the vRS brand and LED matrix headlights give the car an athletic appearance.

To help improve performance, the Octavia vRS comes with dynamic chassis control, which can be used to adjust the suspension set-up via electrically adjustable dampers. This allows drivers to choose how firm the suspension is, from either sporty to soft. Adaptive cruise control also comes with the Octavia vRS providing drivers with the option to allow the car to maintain a safe distance from the car in front by automatically slowing down or speeding up, making longer journeys more relaxing for drivers.
