About used Tesla Model X cars from Arnold Clark

 

Unveiled in 2012 at Tesla’s design studios, the Model X prototype and has its base DNA from the Model S saloon. It is a pioneering all-electric SUV that comes with five, six or seven seats. It offers eco-conscious families a luxurious and dynamic solution for everyday journeys. Despite its four-wheel-drive setup, the Model X is an on-road vehicle only and stands almost in a class of its own. Its closest rivals include the Jaguar I-Pace, the Audi e-tron, the Mercedes-Benz EQC and the BMW iX.

UK deliveries of the Model X began in the spring of 2016. Buyers could choose from the 60D and 90D, with the P90D arriving shortly afterwards. The P stood for Performance, and featured a more powerful electric motor on the rear axle. Introduced in 2017, the 100D and P100D variants were last to use this naming convention. By 2019 the brand started calling its variants by their range capability. These are the; Standard Range AWD, Long Range AWD and Long Range Performance AWD.

In December 2021, Tesla made the decision to stop taking orders for the Model X outside of North America. As such, there was a two-year gap in deliveries to the UK.

Tesla Model X updates and facelifts

 

The Model X received an updated in early 2021. This replaced the Performance trim level with the Plaid. Sitting alongside the dual-motor options, the Plaid features three motors. There are two on the rear axle and one on the front. The vehicle’s exterior also received a refresh. It, sported a redesigned front bumper and diffuser as well as the addition of 22-inch alloy wheels.

In 2023, Tesla made the decision to make the Model X only in left-hand drive. From this point, only Plaid variants were available in the UK. This added to the desirability of used right-hand-drive versions of the standard model.

Practicality and style of the car

 

The Tesla Model X has the edge over its competitors thanks to its three layout options. New buyers could specify either five, six or seven seats. The six-seater option providing three rows of two seats. At a little over five metres long and 2.3 metres wide, the vehicle offers generous cabin space. It also has an impressive amount of boot space. The six and seven-seat variants both having a 425-litre capacity. The five-seat option offers a remarkable 1,050 litres. You can raise the boot floor for a reduced lip height, making loading simpler.

Fold the rear seats down and there’s up to 2,180 litres of space. This can enable you to carry a bike, camping gear or small items of furniture. There’s also a 187-litre cubby under the bonnet, which is perfect for storing charging cables.

If that doesn’t provide enough storage for your needs, the Model X offers a braked towing capacity of up to 2,250kg. As such, it can pull a large caravan, trailer or horsebox.

As an innovative, pure electric SUV, the Tesla Model X occupies group 50 out of 50 for insurance. The Mercedes-Benz EQC and selected Jaguar I-Pace and BMW iX variants occupy the same group. When it comes to road tax, the Model X is exempt until 1 April 2025. It also avoids city centre congestion charges.

How a used Tesla Model X drives

The Tesla Model X has been available with a wide range of battery sizes and power outputs. As a result the used market has many options to choose from. You may find models badged with a number or a moniker such as Standard Range AWD or Long Range AWD.

The Standard Range AWD option has two motors, producing 330bhp and 550Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds. It has an electric range of up to 220 miles. It’s ideal for urban driving and occasional long-distance motoring. The Long Range AWD variant from 2021 onwards has a dual-motor setup and an output of 670bhp. It reaches 62mph from a standstill in 3.8 seconds and offers a range of up to 348 miles.

From 2023, only the Plaid variant was available in the UK, and as a left-hand drive model. Powered by three electric motors, it has an output of 1,006bhp and a staggering 1,020Nm of torque. This sends you from 0-62mph in 2.5 seconds. Range peaks at 337 miles on a single charge.

At a charging speed of 250kW, a top-up from 10–80% takes 30 minutes using a V3 Tesla Supercharger. Charging at a 22kW charging station takes around 7 hours. At home, charging at 7.4kW takes around 16 hours.

 

Features you can expect in a Tesla Model X

Interior

 

As a large SUV, the Tesla Model X provides an impressive amount of cabin space for all occupants. The five-seat variant offers room for both front and rear passengers to stretch out. Middle-row occupants of the six-seater have almost as much room as the front passenger. There is ample headroom available for all passengers. The middle-row seats are adjustable, enabling their passengers to find the ideal position. The six and seven-seat variants third-row seats are best suited to children. They can accommodate adults but would be most comfortable for shorter trips.

 

Not only does the Model X offer a comfortable ride, it also has easy access via the ‘falcon-wing’ doors. Third-row passengers in particular can climb in and out without any trouble. you can adjust the vehicle’s ride height to suit the road surface and conditions.

 

Cabin storage is generous, enabling you to stow all your essentials. The large front door bins have space for a drinks bottle or handbag. There are also adjustable cup holders in the centre console. There’s a useful cubby underneath the driver’s armrest, so you can hide items out of sight.

Technology

The 17-inch touchscreen dominates Tesla Model X’s cabin. It is either portrait or landscape-orientated depending on the model year you select. It provides access to everything in the car. You can open and close the car doors or adjust the climate controls with ease. Google Maps provides navigation and includes real-time traffic information. Tesla also supports over-the-air updates, so the maps and features remain up to date. Rear passengers also have their own screen mounted in the central tunnel. Passengers in the rear of the car can watch films or play video games on the move.

Other technology includes a 22-speaker audio system. This is also controlled through the touchscreen. There are four wireless charging pads throughout to keep devices charged. The powered tailgate makes loading the car easier when you have heavy bags or suitcases. Keyless entry is ideal for when you have your hands full.

Safety

The Tesla Model X achieved a full five-star Euro NCAP rating in 2019. It achieved a near-perfect adult protection score of 98%. It also received a respectable 81% for child occupant protection. The Tesla Model X had a higher score than its competitors. The Jaguar I Pace, Audi Q8, Mercedes-Benz EQC and BMW iX scored adult protection of 91%, 93%, 96% and 91% . All variants come with automatic emergency braking, parking sensors and blind spot assist. Airbags and ISOFIX child seat anchor points on the outer rear seats as expected are standard.

The vehicle can support two levels of semi-autonomous driving. The first, Autopilot, combines an adaptive cruise control system. This which maintains your speed and keeps you a set distance from the car in front. It also includes a lane-centring system. The higher-grade option even enables you to change lanes!
