If your car had broken down on a country road, or you were lost in a new place, the last thing you would want to discover is that your phone had run out of battery.
So it can only be a good thing that technology company Devotec Industries has developed an extremely cute mobile phone charger that is smaller than a fifty pence piece, and can power the average smartphone enough to talk for thirty minutes.
The Fuel Micro Charger, shaped like a miniature fuel can, is an emergency energy booster the size of a keyring – in case you get stuck, lost or lonely on the road. It holds roughly 220 milliAmp of charge and is fully rechargeable. It isn’t the first of its kind, but it is the smallest emergency charger that has been invented so far.
Whether you need to speak to the emergency services, or leave your phone on standby for someone to return your call, or even use the GPS on your phone to find your way home, this dinky device will provide extremely useful assistance.
So where are the downsides? It hasn’t hit the mass market yet – but you can support their Kickstarter project here. The company is based in the States, but they will be shipping overseas once they have their requisite funding in place.
Also, it is only compatible with devices that have a Micro USB connector – so that’s no good for iPhone users!
The team at Devotec has already surpassed their initial $20,000 target in order to get this project off the ground, with funding ending on April 19th – not bad for a device that’s small enough to “fit into the fifth pocket of your jeans”.
