The price cuts from the leading four supermarkets in the UK, Tesco, Morrisons, ASDA and Sainsbury’s, will come as music to the ears of many budget-stretched households that rely on their vehicles to go about their daily routine.

Motoring bodies such as the AA and the RAC have come forward to comment on the price cuts implemented by the supermarkets, the reduced wholesale price will have a positive effect on pricing and therefore this saving can be passed on to the consumer.
RAC technical director, David Bizley, said;
“Certainly, these price cuts will be widely welcomed by UK motorists and it’s encouraging to see that the drop in the wholesale price of fuel is being passed on.”
There is speculation that certain supermarkets, except ASDA who has introduced a cap on their petrol prices, are going to play ‘postcode lottery’ with their pricing structure. This means that some, most likely rural, areas will see the price of petrol soar whilst other inner-city forecourts will see the price slashed as a result of re-distribution of the price elsewhere.
Asda’s petrol trading director has come forward to comment on the potential of the other supermarkets misleading customers, “some of our competitors have postcode lottery pricing which means prices can vary across their forecourts by up to 6pence.” Asda’s cap on their pricing structure means that no consumer, anywhere in the country, will pay more than 133.7p per litre.
Petrol has been found to be one of the most begrudged purchases made by families, particularly as purse strings are increasingly bring tightened to afford the ‘cost of living.’ Now, motorists can let out a sigh of relief as these price reductions come into play as of Tuesday 16th April. Here’s hoping the winter weather disappears now, and motorists can get out on the (pothole free) roads and enjoy the cheaper fuel.
