The Dundee Kiltwalk takes place on 20th August with thousands set to participate, and a number of Arnold Clark employees among them. We’ve been speaking to some of our staff to find out about what inspired them to take part and the causes they’re supporting.

Paul Vincent, Sales Executive at Dundee Vauxhall, is taking on the 25-mile challenge of The Mighty Stride. The route begins at Bruce Embankment, St. Andrews, before moving towards the City of Discovery via iconic sights including Tensmuir National Reserve, the Tay Bridge and Broughty Castle.

Although he isn’t walking as part of a team, he’s hoping to meet up with (and gain some moral support from) his 12-year old son for six miles as he takes part in The Wee Wander.

Paul’s chosen charity is Myeloma UK. He explained: ‘My sister’s partner of 25 years passed away in March of this year after a 12-month battle against very aggressive and debilitating multiple myeloma.’

He didn’t need much persuasion to sign up, saying: ‘It seems like a great day out with like-minded folk, having loads of fun and laughs and creating a few memories along the way. And the charity has a very nice line in bright orange t-shirts, so I won’t be missed.’

The Kiltwalk also has one incredible benefit for hardworking sales staff, with Paul actually managing to get a Sunday off.

While many might be intimidated by the 25 miles, Paul is taking it all in his stride. ‘It’s only walking, isn’t it? I’ve been doing that for years,’ he joked.

‘I’ve been trying as much as possible to get out for a 6 to 7 mile lap of Newport-On-Tay (and surrounding countryside) about 2–3 times a week. And I often walk across the bridge from Fife to Dundee before and after work. ‘

Arnold Clark has agreed to match the fundraising of all participating employees up to the value of £1000, something Paul really appreciates. ‘Having Arnold Clark match the amount raised is fantastic and another reason for taking on the challenge this way.’

Everyone needs a beat to keep them going and Paul has taken his playlist very seriously (and literally) with hits including: * These Boots Are Made for Walking

  • Walking on the Moon

  • Walking Back to Happiness

  • Walk This Way

  • Walk Right Back

  • Walk Like an Egyptian

  • Take a Walk on the Wild Side

  • Walk of Life

  • (I Would Walk) 500 miles

  • Walking in Memphis

  • Walking on Sunshine

  • You'll Never Walk Alone

  • Anything by Steps

Everyone at Arnold Clark wishes Paul the best of luck on the big day.
