Although they’ve been manufactured since 1966 in their native Romania, the first Dacia was sold in the UK just five years ago. The Duster arrived on UK shores in 2013, and this no-nonsense SUV soon gained a reputation for being affordable, smartly designed and reliable.

The line-up expanded to include the compact Sandero, which remains the lowest priced new car in the UK at just £5,995, and the Sandero Stepway, the stylish crossover that remains the most popular car in the Dacia range. Completing the set are the versatile Logan MCV and the Logan MCV Stepway, which mixes the style of an SUV with the practicality of the estate car.

Dacia didn’t take long to make a mark on the UK car market, selling 120,000 cars since 2013. That reflects the global success of the brand with 4.5 million units sold around the world since Dacia was relaunched by Groupe Renault in 2004. It was the fastest growing retail brand in Europe in 2017, with sales of the Sandero rising 16% with almost 200,000 units sold.

Louise O’Sullivan, Head of Dacia UK, said: ‘Dacia was launched in 2013 and straight away we had great public interest in the brand and it’s really found a fit with UK car buyers. In just five years the Dacia community has built up significantly thanks to the annual Dacia Day, our incredibly passionate Dacia owners’ clubs and major brand partnerships like our one with the Rugby Football League. Following fantastic sales growth, it’s set to be an exciting few years ahead for Dacia.’

Dacia has won a number of prestigious awards since its UK launch including the Sandero picking up the What Car? Best Small Car under £12,000 six years running.

To mark this milestone, Dacia released a special video to celebrate.
