What is ISOFIX?

With the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge keen to ensure the safety of their child as it is bundled into its first child seat, they will want to pick a car that boasts ISOFIX anchor points. ISOFIX is the international standard for attachment points for child safety seats in passenger cars, and comes from “International Organisation for Standardisation” standard ISO 13216.

This standard outlines the anchoring system for Group 1 child safety seats and defines the attachment points to be present in cars, enabling compliant child safety seats to be quickly and safely secured. ISOFIX can be configured in various ways but essentially provides a reliable alternative to seatbelts when securing a childseat.
