A spotlight on the all-new Mercedes-Benz B-Class

The all-new 2019 Mercedes-Benz B-Class is set to be released soon. With this latest iteration, Mercedes-Benz has streamlined the model range, offering just two trim levels: Sport and AMG Line. Standard kit is impressive on both models, and drivers can upgrade to add optional equipment packages too. Let’s take a closer look…

Exterior

The B-Class is an upmarket alternative to MPVs such as the Volkswagen Golf SV and Ford C-Max. It will also appeal to compact SUV buyers looking for the best in-car technology and a spacious interior.

The chassis uses A-Class underpinnings, and takes style cues from the popular hatchback too. In fact, from the front, you’d be forgiven for getting the two mixed up. The side and rear view of the car reveal a chunkier look that allows for more space inside the cabin.

Interior

Inside, the car’s widened dimensions mean that drivers have much more room than in the A-Class. There’s a practical sliding rear bench seat that passengers can also recline in.

In terms of tech; this car is full of features, the most impressive of which is the new MBUX infotainment system, which offers an intuitive user experience with:

• Voice controls
• Touchscreen digital display
• AI learning ability

The instrument panel floats in the centre and can be configured depending on your preference.

Boot size and towing capacity

The 455-litre boot can be expanded to a huge 1540-litre maximum luggage capacity with rear seats folded flat. It’s taller and wider than many rivals, which, combined with a low load lip, makes transporting bulky items a breeze.

The boot can be opened by pushing a button or waving a foot under the tailgate.

If you’re a hobbyist with a caravan or horsebox to tow, you’ll be pleased to hear that the B-Class has an excellent towing capacity, with all models offering between 700 and 750 kg unbraked and between 1400 and 1600 kg braked.

The B 200 d and B 220 d come as standard with an 8G-DCT 8-speed automatic transmission. Alternatively, you can opt for the B 180 or B 200 which will come with a 7G-DCT 7-speed automatic transmission.
