Volkswagen goes electric with the new e-up!

The Volkswagen e-up! keeps everything that makes the other up! models such a hit – but with zero emissions

What can we expect from the Volkswagen e-up! when it launches in February?

The Volkswagen e-up! is entirely based on the existing up! models, allowing for efficient manufacturing through the existing production line as well as the sharing of many parts.

This means the e-up! doesn’t compromise on style, performance or space. You’ll be able to clock up around 99 miles when the vehicle is fully charged and, with a single speed gear box, it is actually the quickest up! in the range.

If you do a lot of city driving, the e-up! could be a good option for you. The charging network across the UK is improving all the time, giving you more options to keep the e-up! ready to go.

Inside

The e-up! is all set for a comfortable journey regardless of the weather outside. Electronic climate control allows the driver to fully regulate the internal temperature and helps eliminate external odours.

Anyone who has ever painstakingly scraped their front windscreen following a frosty night (that’ll be all of us then) will be delighted to know that the e up! boasts a heated front windscreen.

Keeping you connected

The e-up! comes equipped with Volkswagen Maps & More via a portable five inch touchscreen:

  • Vehicle information displays, such as remaining charge, route range check, multi-stop route planning, e-route display and a 360° representation of the range of the e-up! with the current load, keep the driver aware.
  • The media player has six powerful speakers, an MP3 compatible CD player, DAB digital radio, Bluetooth and aux-in – easily connecting drivers to the music.
  • Hands free phone calls

On the road

The e-up! is packed with a host of features that give you a fantastic driving experience and help this city car really stand out:

  • 15” Tezzle alloy wheels
  • C-shaped LED daytime running lights
  • 80mph top speed
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Electronic stability control – works by slowing down individual wheels in potentially dangerous situations
  • City emergency braking – the laser sensor monitors traffic and obstacles up to a distance of 10m, responding automatically at a speed of up to 19mph
  • Emergency situations – automatically applies brake pressure to reduce the intensity of a collision or prevent it entirely
  • Light interiors with subtle blue stitching

Getting charged

The optional combined charging system provides a cable with two different plugs. This allows drivers to use alternating current when they have sufficient time for home charging, or are using public charging points. When time is of the essence, drivers can utilise direct current for quicker charging at public charging points, allowing them to get back on the road as quickly as possible.

Owners of the e-up! can install a vehicle charging kit in their homes (currently available free from British Gas) which can lead to 55% faster charging.

The e-up! makes a welcome addition to the Volkswagen up! family, adding a new dimension with zero emissions.

The Volkswagen e-up! will be available from February 2014 at Arnold Clark Volkswagen dealerships. Check out the latest deals on Volkswagen up! models.
