These are attempts to obtain personal or financial information from the recipient of the email. Often, these emails are disguised as being sent by large companies in the hope of appearing more legitimate. It’s important you’re aware that the aim of these emails is to trick you into sharing your personal information.

How to keep your devices and information safe

Do you recognise the sender’s address? If not, don’t click on any links.

Attachments

Are there any unexpected attachments on the email? If so, be wary of the email and check the sender address first.

Does the email directly ask for any personal information? If so, do not reply.

Check the link

Hover your mouse over the link and check the URL before clicking. If it looks suspicious – avoid.

I have received a suspicious email

If you have received a suspicious email, please follow the below steps:

  • Do not click on any link within the email.
  • If you have clicked on the link, do not supply any information on the site that opens.
  • Do not reply to the email.
