You can’t beat the thrill of a race day, with the smell of burning rubber filling your nostrils and the roar of the engines echoing in your ears. These events are certain to tingle the senses of any automotive enthusiast.
Scottish Championship Car Racing The Scottish Motor Racing Club (SMRC) holds several rounds of this event on a monthly basis. The race days are fun for all the family, and feature a full racing programme of up to 18 races from 11am until 5.30pm. There’s live expert commentary, plenty of pit-lane scoops and behind the scenes discussions and interviews.
Ingliston is located close to Edinburgh Airport, on the outskirts of the city. The circuit features Dunfermline Car Club, driving experience companies and the Ingliston Revival. The 2015 Ingliston Revival was the first to take place in 20 years, more than 300 vehicles took part in the event and the next one is to take place on 19th and 20th August 2017. It’s quoted as being ‘bigger and better with more interactive experiences for enthusiasts, owners and the public to enjoy.’
British Automobile Racing Club Race Meeting (BARC) use the 2.12-mile, North Yorkshire track on a regular basis with races in April and July. Featuring huge grids and close racing, this day out is ideal for families of all ages.
Cheshire-based Oulton Park has races throughout the summer, including the British Racing and Sports Car Club (BRSCC), BARC and the MINI festival in August. The track brings in crowds of up to 35,000 for the annual British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), and this year it’s on the 4th and 5th of June.
With a calendar full of races for 2016 Brands Hatch is one of the busiest tracks, the GP circuit season starts on 16th April with the British GT Championship and BRDC British F3.
There are plenty of vintage vehicle events at this course in Lincolnshire, such as the CRMC Classic Bike Championships in June, The Vintage Sports-Car Festival in July and the CSCC Classic Car Championships in September.
Based in Lincolnshire Blyton Park is a former RAF airfield home to many track days, experience days and driver tuition. This is one for those who prefer to be behind the wheel than watching the action from the sidelines. The Midland Automobile club runs the MSA licensed sprint on this track.
Located in Hampshire Thruxton only runs 12 days of motorsport a year, due to planning laws. Nine days a year are devoted to car racing with the TOCA British Touring Car Championship, Dunlop Great and British Festival, British Formula 3 and British GT package. Several clubs hold meets at the circuit including 750 Motor Club and Historic Sports Car Club. Amateur championships of the BARC take up two days of the year such as the Thruxton Classic.
A motorsport circuit located in Leicestershire it’s home to the WTCC UK round as well as the Donington Historic Festival. Donington holds a whole host of motoring events throughout the motoring season, you can see their calendar on their website.
Rockingham is a banked oval race circuit in Corby, Northamptonshire. There is a range of race events at the track including the British Touring Car Championships, British F3/GT and the Pickup Truck Racing Championship.
Other events include Stance Fever on 22nd May 2016, Japfest 26th June and BTTC Rockingham, which takes place on 27th and 28th August.
Santa Pod is tipped as the home of European drag racing. Based in Northwest Bedfordshire the former airfield was first used as a drag racing complex in 1966. The main event held at Santa Pod is the European Drag Racing that takes place from the 27th to 30th May. Other
