What is the SEAT Arona FR Sport?

The SEAT Arona FR Sport is a mid-level trim available on the compact crossover SUV, the SEAT Arona. This trim offers inner and outer style upgrades and comes with larger wheels, all of which make the FR Sport trim a sporty iteration of the SEAT Arona.

The SEAT Arona FR Sport trim was first added to the model’s trim lineup with the release of the first-generation model in 2017. It has also been retained on the second-generation model, making it ever-present in this model’s trim line.

The FR Sport’s combination of premium interior and sporty outer styling make it a good option for petrolheads, enthusiasts and those looking for a practical and performance-oriented model. For this reason, it is well suited to city driving and routine journeys.

SEAT Arona FR Sport history

The SEAT Arona was first brought to market in 2017 and is SEAT’s smallest crossover SUV, sitting below the SEAT Ateca and Tarraco models. It was available with three petrol engines and two diesel engines, as well as either a five-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed automatic option. It was released with a wide selection of trim levels: SE, SE Technology, SE Technology Luxe, FR, FR Sport, Xperience and Xperience Luxe as the top-level trim.

It received a facelift in 2021 that added new materials to the cabin and revised the Arona FR Sport’s exterior. A new pair of fog lamps were added along with a new front grille, daytime running lights, a diffuser and a spoiler. A new infotainment touchscreen was also added to all trims apart from the entry-level SE.

Adding to its sporty design, the FR and FR Sport trims are the only trims in the range available with the model’s 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine. This engine produces 148bhp and goes from 0-62mph in just over eight seconds.

Where does the SEAT Arona FR Sport sits in the range?

As a mid-level trim, the FR Sport sits between entry-level trims like SE and SE Technology and high-end trims, like Xperience and Xperience Luxe. Compared to the FR trim, the FR Sport comes with a lot of the same technology and equipment, but also adds in a heating pack and comes with larger alloy wheels.

What features and equipment does the SEAT Arona FR Sport have?

On the exterior, the FR Sport trim benefits from style upgrades, including large 18-inch ‘Performance’ Cosmo Grey Matt alloy wheels – the largest wheel available on the SEAT Arona model. This trim also comes with a contrast roof with electrically adjustable door mirrors that match the colour of the body.

The SEAT Arona FR Sport comes with a rear spoiler that improves the model’s aerodynamics and aids your fuel economy. There are chrome roof rails, twin exhaust pipe styling and a coming home light function that adds a welcome touch. You will also find LED daytime running lights, LED front and rear lights and an illuminated number plate. The LED headlights feature dynamic range control which automatically adjusts your beam based on your distance to objects and cars.

The SEAT Arona FR Sport has a premium and sporty interior, with high-end materials running throughout. Both the roof and dashboard come in a Titan Black colourway. For added styling, there’s an interior chrome pack that adds silver chrome highlights to the central console, multifunctional steering wheel, and dashboard.

The front seats come with manual height adjustability and headrests so you can stay comfortable over long journeys. For extra grip, your steering wheel, gearstick and handbrake are made from leather and come with red contrast stitching and signature FR Sport badges. The front seats also come with heating functionality for more comfortable winter driving.

In the front, there are sports seats with back storage pockets, which are suitable for small objects like maps and entertainment devices. There’s also a two-step boot floor that adds extra practicality. You’ll find lots of ambient lighting in the footwells, across the centre console and door panel that helps keep the cabin well-lit at night. The air vents are illuminated with a Daring Red.

For easier driving, you’ll find a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, which is larger than the 8-inch version offered on the FR trim. There is also an 8.25-inch infotainment touchscreen that comes with SEAT’s Connectivity plus pack. This adds Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, voice controls, sat nav and a 3D map display to this screen.
