The all-new Mazda CX-5

The new incarnation of the Mazda CX-5 has arrived. It’s an evolution of the previous model, building on those great features to create one of the most desirable SUVs on the road.

A new design philosophy

The new CX-5 is lower, longer and features sharper looks. It’s the first car in the Mazda range to be designed using the Jinba Ittai philosophy, which literally translates as ‘horse and rider’. In this case, it means that the car and owner have an emotional connection, with every element designed with the driver in mind. Practically, this means that the new version incorporates a range of useful technologies, helping driving feel more intuitive.

CX-5 specification

As standard, the CX-5 comes with a range of innovative features including LED headlights, DAB radio, dual-zone climate control, stop/start technology and a 7.0-inch touchscreen. There’s also the option of a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, power tailgate, rain sensing wipers, internet radio and heads-up display.

Space and practicality

Passengers will enjoy a comfortable journey with sufficient headroom and legroom, even for taller passengers. There’s also more room in the boot at 506 litres as well as 20 litres of storage space under the floor, and a glove box big enough to store a large tablet device. A perfectly balanced drive G-Vectoring Control ensures the optimum load is distributed onto each tyre when cornering, through integration of the engine, transmission, chassis and body. This helps the car manoeuvre exactly as the driver intends, creating a smoother and more comfortable ride overall.

The CX-5 engine range

At launch, there will be three engines available. The 2.0-litre petrol engine offers 163bhp mpg with CO2 emissions of 149.0 g/km. There are two 2.2-litre petrol engines available, offering 146bhp and 173bhp respectively. A six-speed manual gearbox comes as standard along with the option of an automatic gearbox. For those who want a little more control, four-wheel drive is also available.

Advanced safety features

The CX-5 features Mazda’s i-ACTIVSENSE hazard recognition technology, helping the driver to recognise and avoid dangers on the road. Smart city break support uses cameras to constantly monitor distance and closing speeds. Driver attention alert monitors driver behaviour for signs of fatigue, while lane keep assist ensures that you’ll always stay on course. With blind spot monitoring, hill launch assist and radar cruise control also available, the CX-5 is fully equipped with a class-leading range of safety features.
