The history of the Ibiza

The Ibiza is SEAT’s best-selling model, with the first ever iteration showcasing at the Paris Motor Show in 1984. Today, the Ibiza has secured its status as a Spanish icon and is considered by many to be the most charismatic car in the SEAT range.

      Ibiza MK1

      Ibiza Mk1 (1984–1993)

      The first SEAT Ibiza was a result of a collaboration between SEAT and the Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, engineering company Karmann and the prestigious German sports-car manufacturer Porsche.

      This started SEAT’s convention of naming models after Spanish locations.

      Ibiza MK2

      Ibiza Mk2 (1993-2002)

      This is the first model produced under Volkswagen ownership and also the year in which SEAT celebrated its 50th anniversary.

      Ibiza MK3

      Ibiza Mk3 (2002-2008)

      20 years after its first ever release, SEAT launched two new Ibiza sport models: the Ibiza FR and the Ibiza Cupra.

      The Cupra had SEAT’s most powerful diesel engine in the range.

      Ibiza MK4

      Ibiza Mk4 (2008-2012)

      SEAT launched the Ibiza SC (Sport Coupé).

      Passing the Euro NCAP safety test with a full 5 stars, the Ibiza is classed as one of the safest cars on the market.

      SEAT also introduced an estate model in 2010.

      Ibiza MK4.5

      Ibiza Mk4.5 (2012-2015)

      With more space and a better quality interior the Mk4 was given a facelift, including bi-xenon LED headlights and brand-new technology.

      The Ibiza is now ranked among the best cars in the supermini class.

      Ibiza MK4.5 Connect

      Ibiza Mk4.5 Connect (2015-2017)

      The Mk4 was given a second, more substantial facelift.

      It included improved engine efficiency, improved connectivity, equipment and safety equipment as well as a dashboard upgrade.
