What is the Ford Mondeo Vignale?
The Ford Mondeo Vignale is the flagship Mondeo trim first launched in 2015. Compared to the entry-level Mondeo, the Vignale came with a different front grill and a restyled interior. It is also a highly practical option and was voted the best petrol-powered tow car by experts in 2016’s Tow Car awards.
It has a maximum towing weight of 1800kg (750kg braked) and can still accelerate from 0-62mph in just over 9.1 seconds, while towing a caravan. Its power-operated tow bar automatically stows itself out of sight under the rear bumper when not in use, retaining the models’ sleek look.
This trim has substantial all-round appeal and is a great option for families and those looking for a practical and enjoyable drive. For extra cabin space, the Vignale is also available as an estate, adding to its family-friendly credentials. For this reason, the Vignale trim is a rival to other practical models such as the Mazda 6 GT Sport Nav+, Volkswagen Passat SEL and Škoda Superb Laurin + Klement.
Ford Mondeo Vignale History
The Vignale was first unveiled as part of the Ford Mondeo Mk4’s trim range. It was designed to be the most spec-heavy and luxurious trim in the lineup and boasted a range of new premium features. On the inside, you’ll find new laser-cut leather upholstery and new soft-touch buttons to add to the luxury feel.
Outside, the Vignale features a hexagonal front grille which gives it an even more striking front profile. Modelled front and rear bumpers have chrome detailing for an extra touch of style. The Vignale comes with unique 18-inch alloy wheels and stylish door mirrors.
The Vignale also has a range of efficient and powerful engines. This includes both petrol and diesel engines, as well as petrol hybrid option. This latter engine generates 187bhp, returns a combined 67mpg and accelerates from 0-62mph in just over 8.9 seconds.
Where does the Ford Mondeo Vignale sit in the range
As part of the Mk4 trim range, the Vignale was the top-level option. This means it sits above entry-level trims, such as the Edge, Zetec and Titanium. It also sits above performance trims, including the Titanium, Titanium X and Titanium X Sport. In production between 2015 and 2022, the Ford Mondeo Vignale was discontinued with the wider Mondeo model.
What equipment does the Ford Mondeo Vignale have?
Step into the cabin and you’ll be greeted by exceptional levels of cabin comfort. All seats are coated with laser-cut, part-leather, part-quilt materials which have a luxurious feel. These seats have ten-way electric adjustability with manual adjustment available on the passenger seat so getting comfortable on long drives is easy.
These seats also come with memory function which returns your seat to your ideal driving position every time you drive. For extra comfort, the powered steering column moves away for extra space when entering or exiting the car.
The dash is made up of the same fine quilted leather as the seats, with many practical storage solutions included around the dash and between the two front seats. The gearshift knob is also leather trimmed and scuff plates around the front doors protect the paintwork from scrapes. The Vignale is keyless to start.
The Vignale also comes with an impressive suite of technology. You’ll find an eight-inch touchscreen display on the centre console which is where you can control the car’s infotainment. This system comes with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You can also control this system through Ford’s SYNC 2 voice control support so you can keep your attention on the road.
The Vignale’s impressive sound system helps deliver excellent sound quality while also keeping the cabin hushed from exterior noise. It comes with 12 built-in Sony stereo speakers and three microphones that monitor engine noise levels and transmit counter frequencies for an impressively quiet ride.
The Vignale also includes a range of smart technology features which help keep the car safe. You’ll find adaptive cruise control which helps you stay comfortable and focused over long journeys. In the hybrid model, there’s also a load management system, which helps you control how much energy an EV charger dispenses to the car. This makes it easier to tap into off-peak electric charging, helping make this an efficient model to run. Charging your devices inside the Vignale is easy, too, with two USB ports located under the infotainment system.
To keep everyone safe, you’ll find safety features such as autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and surround airbags to cushion any impact. A blind spot information system, active braking and lane keep alert also feature.
