What is the Ford Puma ST-Line X?

The Ford Puma is a compact crossover designed for convenient urban travel. With its modest exterior dimensions, it’s easy to drive around town and manoeuvre in tight spaces. Step inside and you’ll find room for four (or five on short journeys) and a generous boot. Highly suitable for young families, this model is also a great option for those wanting extra practicality and the benefits of SUV styling.

The ST-Line X is one of the highest-spec variants of the Puma. Boasting premium styling elements and a generous level of technology, it delivers a luxurious experience that complements the model’s sharp handling and admirable refinement.

The compact SUV market is a competitive one, meaning the Puma has many rivals. These include the Renault Captur GT-Line, Peugeot 2008 GT-Line, and Volkswagen T-Cross R-Line. When production of the Fiesta was discontinued in 2023, the Puma became Ford’s smallest model.

Ford Puma ST-Line X history

The ST-Line X trim has been a part of the Ford Puma lineup since the model's relaunch in 2019. It was designed to sit above the ST-Line trim and to incorporate the features of the higher-end Vignale trim.

The Ford Puma began life as a coupé. Launched in 1997, it was based on the Mk4 Fiesta and provided a sleek and affordable option for urban motorists seeking a fun drive. The model boasted front-wheel drive, three doors and four seats. It came with 15-inch alloy wheels as standard, as well as four engine options. The most powerful of these was a 1.7-litre unit that could take drivers from 0-62mph in just 7.9 seconds. The model ended its production run in 2001.

In 2019, the Puma re-emerged, but with a totally new look. This model was a compact crossover, designed to answer the demands of an increasingly SUV-focused market. Like the original Puma, it used the Fiesta as its inspiration, providing a larger and more practical alternative to the popular city hatchback. It shared the same chassis and engine options but offered improved interior space and a larger boot.

Where does the Ford Puma ST-Line X sit in the range?

The ST-Line X sits towards the top of the Puma range, above Titanium and ST-Line and below the Vignale. It boasts a sporty look thanks to larger alloy wheels with a bespoke design, as well as a range of upgraded features. An increased emphasis on safety means this trim also boasts a wide range of protective features, making it one of the safest family crossovers on the market.

What features and equipment does the Puma ST-Line X have?

The Ford Puma ST-Line X has a raft of styling features that set it apart from its siblings. Its 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels have a matt black machined finish, giving it an attractive and sportier appearance. It also boasts rear privacy glass to conceal both passengers and items left on the back seat.

Inside are supportive seats with partial Premium Sensico trim, as well as Ford’s Electronic Air Temperature Control (EATC). This ensures the cabin stays at the perfect temperature throughout your journey. In addition to the Ford SYNC 3 system with its eight-inch touchscreen, the ST-Line X has a Bang and Olufsen Premium audio system, which delivers crisp, rich audio. There’s also sat nav, DAB radio, Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.

Technological features include automatic lights, rain-sensing wipers and cruise control. Safety measures on offer encompass pre-collision assist and autonomous emergency braking, which help you avoid low-speed collisions. When vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists are detected a warning is given, prompting the driver to slow down. If you fail to do so, the brakes are automatically applied. Lane departure warning is also fitted, which helps prevent you from straying from your lane on the motorway. In addition, hill start assist helps stop you from rolling backwards as you pull away on an incline.
