With close competition from the Renault Captur, Nissan Juke and Škoda Kamiq, the 2008 was given a facelift in 2016, adding new engines and a stylish new front grille to elevate its sleek profile. The Mk2 was launched in 2019. In its second iteration, the 2008’s exceptional outer and interior design offers class-leading desirability, with quality finishes and crafted detailing present throughout. New cabin technology, such as the Peugeot digital i-Cockpit system, has been added. New hybrid engine options also offer even more driving efficiency.

Across its two generations, the 2008’s five-door, five-seat combination has remained. But as the model has evolved, its appeal and desirability has only increased. The 2008 won the Best SUV of the Year at the 2021 Car of the Year awards.


Practicality and style of the car

A used Peugeot 2008 is available in a range of trims. From the entry-level Active trim to upmarket GT Premium, the 2008 can come with a number of smart and luxury additions based on your needs, adding to the model’s excellent all-round credentials.

Practicality is built into the design of the 2008, with its spacious cabin creating lots of room for passengers and luggage. When it comes to the model’s dimensions, the Mk2 is larger than the original, with a length of 4,300mm, width of 1,770mm and height of 1,550mm meaning it is 141mm longer than the Mk1. This added length helps the Mk2 offer extra legroom in the cabin.

The 2008’s practical design means there’s good head, leg and kneeroom across all five seats. ISOFIX points on the outer rear seats also make it easy to attach children’s seats. With cubbies, trays and door bins dotted throughout the cabin, keeping the 2008 clutter free on long journeys is no trouble.

The Mk2 is also longer and taller than the Ford Puma’s 4,207mm and 1,537mm respectively. The 2008 is longer than the Nissan Juke’s 4210mm. It is also 59mm longer and 19mm taller than the Škoda Kamiq, helping it offer more cabin comfort.

A used Peugeot 2008 offers good boot space, with sliding rear seats making it easy to adjust passenger comfort and boot space. Most 2008s have 434 litres of boot space with the seat folded up. Slide these seats all the way forward and there are 536 litres. The 2008’s seats fold in a 60:40 configuration, and by folding them down there are 1,467 litres – more than enough for the large bags needed on longer journeys. This is also more space than the Renault Captur’s 1,275 litres, Ford Puma’s 1,216 litres and Škoda Kamiq’s 1,395 litres making the 2008’s boot space among the largest in this vehicle class. The 2008 also has a low boot lip, making loading heavy items easier.

Drivers can choose from a range of different petrol or diesel engines in the Mk1 and Mk2, with Mk2 models manufactured after 2020 offering an electric powertrain. Most petrol engines are a 1.2-litre PureTech engine, which can be configured to produce either 100bhp or 129bhp. The 100bhp configuration can go from 0-62mph in 12.2 seconds, with a range of up to 52.6mpg. The 129bhp version goes from 0-62mph in 10.7 seconds with a range of up to 52.6mpg.

For drivers looking for a diesel engine, there is a 1.5-litre BlueHDi engine which can produce 99bhp or 108bhp. The 99bhp engine can go from 0-62mph in just over 11 seconds with fuel consumption of 62.7mpg. In 108bhp format, acceleration to 62mph takes 10.2 seconds with a range of up to 65.7mpg.

For Mk2 models from 2020 onwards, a used Peugeot 2008 may come with a fully electric engine. The e-2008 offers 134bhp and 250Nm of torque. It can go from 0-62mph in nine seconds, boasts a top speed of up to 93mph and a quoted range of up to 200 miles between charges thanks to its 50kWh battery.

The 2008 can also feature a host of different transmission options depending on the engine choice. Often, the 2008 will have a six-speed automatic gearbox and EAT 6-speed torque converter for fast gear changes. It can also come with a manual five-speed or six-speed gearbox.

The 2008’s cabin technology is easy-to-use and is a significant feature in the model’s design. Many used 2008s feature both Peugeot’s i-Cockpit digital instrument display and, depending on age and trim, a 7 to 10-inch touchscreen on the centre console.

The i-Cockpit system is a digital display which can be configured to show important drive information over six different menu displays, helping you seamlessly cycle between point-of-view navigation, digital dials and driver aids. Switching through these menus while on the go is easy. Thanks to the well-organised buttons on the multi-functional steering wheel, you can see the information that matters most without taking your eyes off the road.

A secondary screen sits in the centre console where drivers can interact with the car’s infotainment system. This system includes Bluetooth, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, and will show sat nav if you opt for the Allure Premium+ trim. The infotainment is connected to a 10-speaker Focal audio system which delivers excellent sound quality throughout the cabin.
