What is the SEAT Ateca Xcellence?

The SEAT Ateca was the first SUV brought to market by the Spanish manufacturer, and it was released in 2016. It is a compact crossover, bridging the gap between a hatchback and an SUV. The premium Xcellence trim packs the SUV with smart tech to make all journeys more comfortable. This trim has been featured on the SEAT Ateca since its initial release and sits at the top end of the trim range.

The SEAT Ateca shares much of its design with the SEAT Leon Hatchback but offers a higher stance and roofline, giving occupants a more spacious cabin and drivers a full view of the road.

Designed for families and professionals with an active lifestyle, the Ateca is a practical car with a large 510-litre boot and generous space in the front and rear seats. For this reason, it is a close rival of the Nissan Qashqai N-Connecta, Peugeot 3008 Allure Premium and Kia Sportage 3.

SEAT Ateca Xcellence history

The SEAT Ateca debuted at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, and Auto Express awarded it the ‘Crossover of the Year’ in the same year. Since its launch as part of the initial trim range, the SEAT Ateca Xcellence has been available with a 1.5-litre 148bhp turbo petrol engine that reaches 0-62mph in 9.3 seconds. This unit is the mid-level option in the Ateca range. You will also find a 1.0-litre petrol unit that produces 109bhp and a 2.0-litre engine that generates 187bhp. There is one 2.0-litre diesel engine that can be configured to produce either 113bhp or 147bhp.

In 2020, the Ateca Xcellence received a significant facelift. SEAT made changes across the Ateca range, including a new grille, redesigned bumper, LED lights and the handwritten style logo you will see on several SEAT models. Given the refreshed bumper, the 2020 models are 18mm longer than previous ones.

As a high-level trim, the SEAT Ateca Xcellence benefits from several exterior and interior additions, including a 9.2-inch infotainment touchscreen in the centre of the dashboard. It also comes with full smartphone connectivity with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

This facelift also added a smartphone charging pad that charges compatible smartphones wirelessly and allows you to use in-car apps via the screen. The driving instruments are displayed on a 10.25-inch digital screen in models from 2020 onwards. You can also view the sat nav on the screen to help keep your eyes on the road. From this facelift onwards, SEAT renamed the Xcellence trim to the Xperience.

Where does the SEAT Ateca Xcellence sit in the range?

The Xcellence is a mid-to-higher-level trim on the SEAT Ateca. It borrows the comfort and relaxing driving additions from the SE Technology and adds sporty touches like sports seats and Alcantara upholstery to add to the premium feel of the model. Thanks to its different driving modes, the Xcellence trim retains the model’s simplicity and practicality while adding in athletic features.

Higher up in the range is the Xcellence Lux trim which comes with larger alloy wheels, a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, heated leather front seats and a 360-degree parking camera.

What features and equipment does the Ateca Xcellence have?

The sportiness of the SEAT Ateca Xcellence is evident from the outside. You will find 18-inch ‘Brilliant Silver’ alloy wheels, a rear exhaust tailpipe, chrome roof rails and window surrounds and black wheel arch surrounds, making it a stylish and striking car.

Inside, the sporty feel continues with aluminium pedals and front sports seats. Alcantara upholstery adds additional comfort and helps you stay comfortable on long drives. The Ateca comes with keyless entry and rain-sensing wipers for convenience. Ambient lighting also sets a sophisticated mood during evening drives.

The SEAT Ateca Xcellence comes with SEAT’s driving mode selector, which lets you tailor your drive between four main settings: normal, eco, sport and individual. Eco reduces throttle response and limits air conditioning usage to help save on fuel, while sport mode gives more feedback from the accelerator model and alters the sound of the engine. With individual mode, you can select the different driving components you prefer.

There is also a selection of handy driving features that enhance your drive, including cruise control with a speed limiter, dual-zone climate control, an electric parking brake and a smartphone charging plate to help you stay connected on the go.
