Grey Peugeot 3008 from the front

The Peugeot 3008 is a class-leading SUV, firmly established as a benchmark for innovation, practicality and style in the C-class segment. First introduced in 2008 as Peugeot’s mid-sized SUV, its well-earned reputation has helped make it a multi-award-winning model, winning Car Buyer’s ‘Best Medium SUV’ award four years in a row.

Inside and out, the Peugeot 3008 combines attention to detail and a masterful design. With the Mk1’s popularity spanning almost a decade, it was completely revamped for its second generation in 2017. The Mk2 is 8.5cm longer for even greater interior space and sports an aerodynamic, boxier shape. The model was further enhanced with a digital cockpit and a new petrol hybrid engine.

In a competitive vehicle class, the Peugeot 3008’s rivals include the ŠKODA Karoq, Ford Kuga and Nissan Qashqai. But through its wide appeal and practicality, the 3008 delivers a best-in-class range of features, growing its enduring popularity.

A used Peugeot 3008 is available in four main trims: Active Premium, Allure, Allure Premium and GT Premium. From entry-level to flagship features, the 3008 is perfectly suited to a wide range of different driver needs.

Practicality and style of the car

Its large size means there is ample storage and boot space for every need. With the rear seats up, many 3008s have 592 litres of space, expanding to 1,670 litres when the seats are folded down. For added safety, it also features a removable floor and plenty of netting to help keep your luggage upright while stowed. Compared to the Karoq’s standard 521 litres and Qashqai’s 504 litres of boot space, the Peugeot 3008’s large boot space is a highly appealing feature.

The Peugeot 3008’s large size also means there is plenty of room throughout the cabin, with ample knee, leg and headroom. The 60/40 rear seats fold flat onto the floor, so you can utilise every drop of storage space.

Getting the 3008 ready for family journeys is no hassle with ISOFIX points conveniently fitted on the front passenger seat and two rear window-side seats. And thanks to the 3008’s storage options and holders, it’s also easy to keep the cabin tidy. There are four large door bins as well as a front compartment and sizable glovebox that can easily store handheld accessories.

The 3008 also has good towing capabilities. It has a maximum braked trailer weight of 1,400kg, which is enough for many small to medium-sized trailers or caravans.

Running Costs

A used Peugeot 3008 usually falls into a reasonable insurance group for a mid-sized SUV, with the entry-level Active Premium trim sitting in group 22 while the GT Premium trim sits in group 38. Its annual road tax is also good value at typically around £180.

A range of petrol and diesel engines are available. On models manufactured after 2017, there is also a petrol hybrid option. Depending on age and trim, some 3008s may come with a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine: the PureTech 130. This engine generates 129bhp, can go from 0-62mph in 10.8 seconds and deliver 53.3–55.4mpg. A 1.6-litre turbocharged engine is also available. This engine can come in either a 162bhp or 178bhp variant, achieves 48.7mpg and can accelerate from 0-62mph in around 8 seconds.

The 3008 can also come with diesel engines. There is a 1.5-litre engine that offers 129bhp, can accelerate from 0-62mph in 10.8 seconds and deliver 67.3–68.9mpg. The 1.6-litre diesel produces 116bhp and accelerates from 0-62mph in around 13 seconds, while the 2.0-litre can produce up to 174bhp and achieve 64.2mpg.

A plug-in petrol hybrid engine was introduced with the Mk2 in 2017. The Hybrid 180 engine combines 148bhp from a petrol engine with 108bhp from an electric motor to create a powerful 256bhp engine. It can accelerate from 0-62mph in eight seconds while achieving a top speed of 134mph, and allows for 100% electric driving at speeds of up to 84mph. This engine can also achieve a quoted fuel economy of 222.3mpg, far beyond the mpg of the Nissan Qashqai’s 52mpg and ŠKODA Karoq’s 48mpg.

Many used 3008s will come with an EAT6 (Efficient Automatic Transmission six-speed) transmission system which allows for quick and smooth gear changes and sport mode for greater performance and responsiveness. The 3008 can also feature an EAT8 transmission, which offers improved efficiency and reduced fuel consumption.

Features you can expect in a Peugeot 3008

When it comes to standing out on the road, the 3008 is second to none. The Mk2’s overhauled design saw the introduction of a raised body, prominent front grille, deep air intakes and narrow headlights to create a striking front profile. And with rounded edges and sculpted door creases, the 3008 boasts a masterful design from every angle.

Step inside and the cabin’s clean and intuitively designed surfaces immediately stand out. Leather features heavily throughout the cabin, with seats, upholstery and steering wheel all benefitting. In its Allure Premium trim, the dashboard will instead be clad in a Mistral cloth fabric, with mint green stitching adding extra style. For even more luxury, the GT Premium trim adds Alcantara leather to the seats, as well as massaging functionality to the driver’s seat.

With its raised front seating position, you’ll enjoy a commanding view of the road. And, with the multi-functional steering wheel available on some 3008s, you’ll be able to seamlessly engage with the infotainment system without taking your eyes off the road.

Depending on the age and trim of the Peugeot 3008, you may find an 8-inch or 10-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch panel which host Peugeot’s excellent infotainment system and digital cockpit respectively. Peugeot’s I-Cockpit system won What Car’s Technology Award in 2017 thanks to its intuitive menu system and customisable display, which you can personalise to show sat nav, fuel dials and battery charge levels, distance driven and miles per gallon.

On the centre console, you can interact with the 3008’s infotainment system, which includes Bluetooth, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, smartphone mirroring and sat nav. Pre-2020 Mk2s feature an 8-inch touchscreen, with newer models featuring a 10-inch touchscreen. Enhancing the infotainment system is the 3008’s six-speaker sound system. Opt for the GT Premium trim, and you will enjoy a truly rewarding 10-speaker Focal sound system for a 3D sound experience throughout the cabin.

Safety and security are built into the car’s design throughout, with the 3008 achieving a full five stars in Euro NCAP’s safety rating. Airbags and force-limited seatbelts are included across all generations, while Mk2 3008s released in 2017 feature automatic emergency braking and a rear reversing camera.
