For used Škoda Citigo cars, choose Arnold Clark

The Škoda Citigo offers drivers a fun and practical drive. The Škoda Citigo is a perfect car for commuters or small families looking for an affordable car with its inexpensive running costs. The Citigo is available with either three-doors or five-doors and comes with a range of petrol engines.

The Škoda Citigo rivals other small city cars such as the Toyota Aygo, the Volkswagen Up! and the Kia Picanto. The Škoda Citigo won the AutoExpress City Car of the Year award five years in a row from 2011 to 2016.

Škoda Citigo updates and facelifts

Launched in 2011, the Citigo was the smallest car from Škoda. A year later, in 2012, Škoda released a five-door version of the Citigo, which offered passengers easier access to the rear seats.

Škoda introduced a facelift of the Citigo in 2017. The design changes to the interior included the addition of a removable infotainment and navigation system. This mount can also be used to hold smartphone devices. Both the three-door and five-door versions underwent the same facelift.

Practicality and style of the car

The Škoda Citigo has decently sized boot for the size of the car. With the rear seats folded up both the three-door and five-door variants offer 251-litres of boot space. By folding down the rear seats, owners can expand this to 951 litres in the three-door and 959 litres in the five-door variant.

In comparison to rivals, the Škoda Citigo offers a larger boot than the Toyota Aygo, with its 168 litres or 198 litres when expanded. The Škoda Citigo matches the Volkswagen up!’s boot capacity, which has 251 litres, or 951 litres with the seats folded down. The Škoda Citigo offers owners enough space to hold several suitcases or shopping, ideal for a weekend getaway.

The Citigo can also come with a variable floor, which can be used to store valuables out of sight or neatly store safety equipment.

Running costs

The Škoda Citigo falls into insurance groups 1 to 4 and has an annual road tax of up to £180. The Citigo falls into a lower insurance group than its rivals, as the Volkswagen up! falls into groups 1 to 17 and the Kia Picanto falls into groups 1 to 11. This makes the Škoda Citigo a low-cost car to insure and run.

How a used Škoda Citigo drives

There is a choice of two petrol engines on the Škoda Citigo.

Both engines use the same 1.0-litre MPI three-cylinder engine but have different outputs, either 60bhp or 75bhp. The 60bhp engine achieves 0 to 62mph in 14.4 seconds, while the 75bhp engine achieves 0 to 62mph in 13.5 seconds.

Both engines have a good fuel efficiency, returning between 57.7 and 76.4mpg respectively. The engines are also available with either manual or automatic transmission.

Features you can expect to find in a Škoda Citigo

Interior

The interior of the Citigo is well built and minimalist, allowing a comfortable and easy driving experience. The design of the cabin is modern and practical. Finished with quality materials such as leather and chrome, that can withstand the practicalities of family life.

The dashboard features a 6.5-inch ‘Swing’ radio system display that allows owners to listen to the radio as well as connect their smartphones to the system via Bluetooth and AUX input. There is also a CD player to listen to music. This is controlled via a set of physical controls and buttons located at the bottom and to the sides of the screen.

On the Elegance trim, there is a five-inch portable infotainment device. This is stored on the dashboard on a secure holder and comes with integrated sat nav and an infotainment system. Owners can connect their phone to the portable infotainment device via Bluetooth and access their personal libraries for onboard entertainment. The device can be controlled via the touchscreen interface or via voice commands.

The Škoda Citigo seats are supportive and shaped to allow all four passengers to easily find a comfortable position in the car. There is also a good amount of headroom and legroom in both the front and rear of the vehicle. On the three-door variant, the front seats fold forwards and give rear passengers plenty of space to easily enter and exit the vehicle.

To help keep the cabin clutter-free, there is a good-sized glovebox and shopping bag hook in the front, as well as a helpful cubby located at the front of the centre console to store personal items such as smartphones or keys. Drivers will also find a cup-holder in the centre console to keep drinks at hand when driving. Door bins also provide a good amount of space to store water bottles or other items.

Technology

There are several features on the Škoda Citigo to assist the driver when on the road. Cruise control helps drivers to maintain a set speed when on motorways. There are fog lights located on the front bumper. These help maintain high levels of visibility in adverse weather conditions. The Škoda Citigo has Lane keep assist technology. This helps drivers keep within the centre of their lane by alerting the driver when they are drifting towards the edges.

The speed assistance system alerts the driver of local speed limits using digital mapping.

Safety

The Škoda Citigo scored three stars out of five in the Euro NCAP safety test. The Škoda Citigo scored well on adult and child occupancy protection tests, scoring 89% and 80% respectively. In comparison, the Kia Picanto scored 79% and 64% on adult and child protection tests, respectively. The Škoda Citigo also has a higher score the Toyota Aygo when it came to these tests, as the Aygo scored 82% for adult protection and 63% for child protection.

Safety features on the Škoda Citigo include a series of airbags in the front and rear for occupant protection. Electronic stability control prevents the vehicle from losing traction on the road in the event of adverse weather condition. Autonomous emergency braking also features on the Citigo, which automatically applies the brakes in an emergency if the driver has failed to do so.

Other safety features include a seatbelt reminder system, which alerts the driver if there is a passenger in the front or rear without a seatbelt on. ISOFIX points are also located on the rear two seats allowing child seats to be safely secured in the car.
