What our customers say

For used Audi A1 cars, choose Arnold Clark

Arnold Clark offers the best used Audi A1 deals, guaranteed. And if you find a better used Audi A1 price elsewhere, we’ll give you back double the difference.

Audi has long been considered a premium brand and the Audi A1 continues this legacy, providing the market with a highly desirable compact car that holds the allure of the Audi name but at a price of a compact urban runaround.

The A1 is Audi’s first contribution to the supermini market with previous models all being larger. However, even with its smaller size, the A1 doesn’t lose any of the renowned styling and class that have kept the brand’s premium standing in the market.

This quite affordable Audi comes equipped with a level of comfort that consumers have come to expect from this upmarket brand.

Audi A1 history

The Audi A1 is a supermini car and was first launched in 2010 with the internal designation the ‘Typ 8X’. It was previewed at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2007 as the concept car Metroproject Quattro and featured a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The Audi A1 is the most affordable and smallest car available in the Audi range. In 2008, a five-door concept version called the Sportback was revealed at the Paris Motor Show. It was officially unveiled at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show before launching in November 2011. The first-generation A1 became available in 20 different limited-edition models during its lifespan alongside the core offerings. The first-generation A1 was superseded by the second in 2018, ending the first generation’s eight-year life cycle.

The second-generation Audi A1 became available to order June 2018 and shared a platform with the Volkswagen Polo mark 6 and the mark 5 SEAT Ibiza. Unlike the first generation, the second generation did not come with the option of a diesel engine and was only available with one of four petrol engines. Audi has advised that the second-generation A1 will be the last and will not be renewed once it has ended its life cycle, so it is a perfect time to buy a used Audi A1 before they become discontinued.

Audi A1 body styles, engines, and economy

This small car delivers impressive fuel economy and stylish design. It’s the smallest car of the Audi range but that does not mean a shortage in quality – it’s packed with a well-equipped interior, and it holds its value well.

A used Audi A1 offers a choice of two body styles – the standard three-door A1 or the five-door Sportback mode.

The A1’s entry-level engine is a 1.0 litre petrol engine. There are also 1.4-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesel options available. The 1.4 Audi A1 has an impressive average of 60.1 mpg and the 1.6 diesel averages at around 75 mpg and is exempt from road tax. Diesel engines are only available in used A1 models, as the second-generation dropped diesel from the line-up.

What are the Audi A1 trim levels?

The A1 supermini is available in a range of trim levels:

  • A1 SE
  • A1 Technik
  • A1 Sport
  • A1 S Line
  • A1 Citycarver Edition
  • A1 Contrast Edition
  • A1 Black Edition
  • A1 Vorsprung
  • A1 SE

The SE is the entry level trim of the first-generation A1 and comes equipped with a variety of equipment depending on the age of the car. The later SE models come fitted with a 6.5-inch display that provides access to the MP3 CD player and DAB radio. It has six speakers in the front and rear, as well as a three-spoke adjustable sports steering wheel. 15-inch 5-arm design alloy wheels provide fantastic curb appeal and, with power steering and dynamic suspension, the drive matches its high-quality finish. If you go for the Sportback 5dr option, your car will have electric windows throughout.

    A1 Technik

The A1 Technik is the entry level trim of the second-generation A1 and, as expected from Audi, provides a high spec that you will not find on a less premium car. Fitted with LED lights front and rear and 15-inch, 5-arm alloy wheels, the Technik has great curb appeal for an entry-level trim. It also comes with some great tech, such as an automatic start-stop system, dynamic suspension and power steering. This all may sound standard however, when these features are combined with the striking matt black radiator grille, front-side air inlets, front spoiler lip and the electrically adjustable folding seats and heated door mirrors that have LED indicators, you can soon see why this compact car gets such amazing reviews. The interior doesn’t let up either; with a 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel that is height and reach adjustable, a leather gear knob and leatherette handbrake grip, the inside is just as luxurious as you would expect. With electric front and rear windows, a heated windscreen and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, this car really has driver comfort in mind. With the Bluetooth interface and DAB digital radio, six passive speakers and a voice control system – all accessible through the 8.8-inch touch colour display screen, giving everything the driver might need at their fingertips.

    A1 Sport

The Sport trim has been available across both generations of A1 and comes with a host of tweaks and features to differentiate it from the lower-level trim of the SE/Technik. Being the Sport, this trim comes with slightly firmer suspension and sport seats with adjustable lumber support. The 2022 version of the Sport is packed with features like the Audi Drive Select, which enables the driver to adjust the power steering assistance and engine and gear-shift characteristics with three available pre-set modes to enhance and personalise the driving experience. This is combined with cruise control and rear parking sensors to provide a convenient drive. The A1 Sport has larger wheels than the standard SE and comes fitted with 16-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels that fit 195/55 R16 tyres that really set off the cars looks. Along with matte black and matte aluminium detailing around the radiator grille, rear diffusers, air inlets and front spoiler lips really provide a great spectacle when parked up on the drive.

    A1 S Line

The S Line picks up where the Sport left off and is a mid-higher-level trim. It has a sports suspension that is stiffer than the Sport, so it provides a more exhilarating experience when cornering. Fitted with 17-inch alloy wheels with 5-twin spoke design with a diamond cut finish, the S Line also comes with the S Line body kit that includes S Line bumpers and side air inlets frames in a black titanium finish. The front spoiler and rear diffuser clips come in a platinum grey finish, while the body-coloured side sills and S Line roof spoiler give this trim a sportier pedigree. Inside, the S Line has a three-spoke leather multi-function steering wheel with perforated leather grip and contrast stitching. The LED lighting pack includes front footwell lights, inside door handles and front and rear roof mounted reading lights.

    A1 Citycarver

The City Carver is the A1 equivalent of a small SUV and was an available trim during the first generation of A1s. The City Carver sits slightly higher than the other A1 models and provides the driver with that SUV feel without being hampered with a bulky sized car that is ill equipped for city parking. Although the City Carver does feel a little different when cornering due to the additional 5cm of height, it doesn’t impact the car’s ability to cut through the hustle of city traffic. The City Carver was positioned as a connected car and is ideal for young technophiles; the City Carver provides this by usingApple CarPlay or Android Auto to seamlessly connect the user’s smartphone with the car to enable connectivity with their day-to-day features. An onboard,on-street parking app will make suggestions for parking spaces in the local area. For those users who use Amazon’s Alexa, they will be happy to hear that they will be able to connect directly to their home from their car with voice commands, so they can get that heating on before they arrive!

    A1 Contrast Edition

The Contrast Edition comes with a contrasting roof line colour and bi colour 17-inch alloy wheels. The mythos black accents provide a striking look with the matching pillars, wing mirrors and rear privacy glass. The Contrast Edition sits above the Sport in terms of trim level and has an S Line body kit.

    A1 Black Edition

The Black Edition is one of the A1’s higher trim levels, replacing the S Line Plus trim. It comes with a sport flat-bottomed steering wheel and sport fronts seats both in a luxury leather. 18-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels have a titanium diamond cut finish, while the 225/35 tyres and S Line sport suspension allow for exhilarating cornering when using the auto select functionality. A gloss black radiator grille frame and matching black trim give the A1 Black Edition a distinctive look and, being one of the higher-level trims, it has the equipment to complement the premium Audi styling. With heat-insulated glass on the windscreen and side windows, as well as air conditioning, this assures a comfortable and visible driving environment for the driver and passengers.

    A1 Vorsprung

The Vorsprung Edition is Audi’s highest-level trim, bringing the most luxury and styling the model has to offer. This exclusive trim is packed with the same features as the Black Edition, but with the addition of an upgraded adaptive suspension, driver assist features, and a premium Bang and Olufsen speaker system. As you would expect from the top trim Audi, this Vorsprung comes with all the luxuries: heated front seats and flat-bottomed multifunctional steering wheel and dual climate control that provides driver and passenger with the temperature they want. There are a multitude of driving assist sensors, including lane assist and 360-degree sensor parking assist with rear camera. On the exterior, the car is fitted with 18-inch twin five spoke alloy wheels and LED lights at the front and rear. The rear windows have tinted privacy glass that really helps complete the striking luxurious tone of this vehicle.

The prestige small car market is a competitive one with the Audi A1 up against the BMW 1 Series, Mercedes-Benz A-Class and the DS 3 to name a few.
