What is the Audi A3 Black Edition?

The Audi A3 Black Edition provides enthusiasts with a premium and sporty driving experience. Available as a three or five-door hatchback and as a convertible, the Black Edition adds some stylish features that help it stand out on the road. Adapting the equipment available on the S line trim, the Black Edition adds its own unique styling to both the interior and exterior of the vehicle.

Since its launch in 2019, the Audi A3 Black Edition is a desirable car for those looking to have a unique and elegant Audi A3. It rivals other premium models such as the BMW 1 Series M Sport Shadow Edition, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class AMG Night Edition and the DS 4 Performance Line.

Audi A3 Black Edition history

Originally launched in 1996, the Audi A3 was Audi’s first premium compact-hatchback. It proved a hit, with Audi launching the Mk2 in 2003. Along with a more modern design, the Mk2 received a five-door version, known as the Sportback.

The Mk3 was unveiled nine years later in 2012,it came with a sculpted body kit, giving it a more aerodynamic look.

In 2016, Audi gave the Mk3 a facelift, which saw the introduction of some subtle design changes to the exterior. Alongside this update, Audi launched the Black Edition trim. A step-up from the S line trim, the Black Edition trim adds black detailing and finishes to both the exterior and interior. This gives the Audi A3 a premium and sporty look, adding to its desirability. The Black Edition came with a range of petrol or diesel engines and had a top speed of 147mph and achieved 0 to 62mph in 6.1 seconds.

In 2020, Audi launched the Mk4 A3, while also updating the Black Edition as well. With a new exterior design featuring some bold design choices to the front and rear bumpers, such as the horseshoe-shaped single-frame grille, front fog lights and a more sculpted look to the vehicle overall.

New Matrix-LED lights were added, providing drivers with better visibility when travelling at night as well as daytime running lights for day use. Mild-hybrid engines were also made available on the Mk4 A3 alongside petrol and diesel options. Depending on the engine, the Mk4 Audi A3 Black Edition has a top speed of 155mph and achieves 0 to 62mph in 4.8 seconds.

Where does the A3 Black Edition sit in the range?

The Audi A3 Black Edition sits alongside the S line trim, which is the flagship trim for the Audi A3 from 2023. The Black Edition builds on the S line, adding its own unique styling kit to both the exterior and interior of the vehicle. By adding black styling elements around the vehicle, it gives the Audi A3 a premium look and feel. The higher level Vorsprung trim is available on the S3 model.

What features and equipment does the Audi A3 Black Edition have?

The Audi A3 Black Edition includes a generous equipment list and provides owners with a stylish and high-tech driving experience. On the exterior, the Black Edition gets a sportier body kit with LED headlights and sweeping indicators. Privacy glass is also included along with 19-inch alloy wheels.

The Black Edition also receives some changes to the performance of the vehicle. Mirroring the sporty look of the vehicle with flared wheel arches and a unique front and rear bumper design, the Black Edition has a sports suspension set-up. This lowers the ride height by 15mm and improves the agility of the vehicle. Enthusiasts will enjoy the sporty ride and looks that the Audi A3 Black Edition has to offer.

Step into the interior and you’ll find Nappa leather sports seats in the front , ambient interior lighting and a 10.1-inch infotainment screen with integrated sat nav. The infotainment system also comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity so drivers can connect to their personal music libraries, navigation applications and contacts for hands-free calling. The Black Edition also includes the Audi Virtual Cockpit, comprising a 10.25” digital colour instrument cluster.

Other features on the Black Edition include an auto high beam system which automatically dips the headlights when an approaching vehicle is detected. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving and avoids dazzling other drivers. There is also ‘Audi Beam’, which projects the Audi logo onto the floor when you open the front passenger doors. This adds a touch of class to the vehicle and is nice touch for Audi enthusiasts.
