Stylish, family-friendly and spacious, the Peugeot 5008 is a large family SUV that stands out from the crowd. The Mk1 was launched in 2009 and was originally classified as a mid-size MPV. The Mk2 was released in 2017. It brought the Mk1’s design in line with modern tastes and standards and was also reclassified as a mid-size crossover SUV.

As a seven-seater, the Peugeot 5008 retains the practicalities of the Mk1 people carrier and puts it in direct competition with other seven-seater SUVs such as the Škoda Kodiaq, SEAT Tarraco and Nissan X-Trail.

The Mk2 Peugeot 5008 received a facelift in 2020, which brought in subtle design changes to the interior and exterior. The interior received some new technology such as a 10-inch infotainment screen and, on some trims, an updated 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. The exterior got a larger front grille for a more SUV-style look as well as revised LED daytime running lights and headlights.

Available in petrol or diesel engines with good fuel economy, the Peugeot 5008 is a great car for large families offering plenty of space for luggage and passengers.


Practicality and style of the car

The Peugeot 5008 comes with plenty of space to satisfy its seven-seat capacity. With all the back seats up, it offers a decent 167 litres of space – more space than the 135 litres offered by the Nissan X-Trail. Fold down the rear-most two seats and this can be expanded to 780 litres, still leaving you with five seats for passengers. If you need to transport large and bulky objects, fold down all the back seats and you are presented with a vast 2,150 litres of flat storage space.

This space is practical for large families to fit plenty of suitcases for family holidays. The middle three rear seats also feature ISOFIX points for securing child seats. By sliding the middle row forward, the rear-most seats can be accessed easily. This feature allows for the rear-most seats to be more practical and accessible than those found on the Škoda Kodiaq.

With a towing capacity of between 1,100 to 1,750kg, depending on the engine you choose, the Peugeot 5008 can tow a small trailer or caravan if needed. The 2.0-litre 175bhp diesel engine provides the maximum towing capacity, while the 1.5-litre BlueHDi diesel and PureTech petrol engines can tow 1,200kg or 1,100kg respectively.

There are different engines available on a used Peugeot 5008 that you can choose from to suit your preferences for fuel type and economy.

For petrol engines, there is the 130bhp 1.2-litre PureTech petrol engine which performs well against rival SUV engines on the market. This offers a fuel economy of up to 48mpg, delivers a maximum torque of up to 230Nm and can take you from 0-62mph in under 10 seconds.

If you expect to be carrying a full boot often you might want to opt for the 178bhp 1.6-litre PureTech petrol engine as it performs better with heavy loads. This has a fuel economy between 36.4 to 43.8mpg and goes from 0-62mph in 9.1 seconds.

Diesel engines on a used Peugeot 5008 can offer better fuel economy and are available in either manual or automatic transmission. The 1.5-litre BlueHDi diesel engine has a fuel economy of around 60.8mpg, offers 128bhp and has a 0-62mph time of 11.6 seconds. This provides good torque and offers great performance on the road, giving you the power needed to travel with a full car.

Iterations before 2018 are also offered with a 118bhp 1.5-litre BlueHDi or 161bhp 2.0-litre BlueHDi diesel engine. These fuel-efficient engines deliver 60.8mpg and 61.4mpg and can accelerate from 0-62mph in 11 seconds and 10.5 seconds respectively.

The interior of a Peugeot 5008 has a premium feel without the matching price tag. A smart and modern dashboard along with good quality materials and a range of technology in the cabin makes the Peugeot 5008 a great place to be.

There is plenty of headroom and legroom throughout the cabin. The 5008 can comfortably fit a car full of adults on a short trip, with the rear-most seats being best suited for children when embarking on longer journeys. The three middle seats are spacious, allowing three adults to sit comfortably side by side. The 5008 has retained the people carrier practicality of its predecessor. Certain trims offer leather or cloth upholstery as well as wooden or metal details making the cabin feel even more upmarket and comfortable.

Elsewhere in the cabin, there are storage cubbies dotted around to help keep the cabin clutter-free. In the front there are two cupholders for the driver and front passenger, and other cubbies for storing small personal items such as keys, wallets and glasses. On the centre console, you can find an 8-inch or, on Mk2 models after 2020, 10-inch touchscreen infotainment display. Located just below the driver’s eye level, the screen can come with sat nav integration as well as smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for onboard entertainment and hands-free calling.

The instrument cluster incorporates a 12.3-inch screen. It is home to Peugeot’s i-Cockpit, which collects and displays all the vital information the driver needs. The information can be changed, so you can personalise your driving experience. Sat nav directions and maps can also be displayed here, enabling you to keep a close eye on the directions without having to look away from the road for too long.


Safety

Euro NCAP awarded the 5008 a full five stars. The 5008 also scored highly on occupant protection, achieving 86% on adult protection and 85% on child protection.

Other safety features include rear door locks that can be controlled from the driver’s seat so you can keep your children securely in the car when parking, lane-departure warning, cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind spot detection and traffic sign recognition. On certain trims, other safety features can also include adaptive cruise control and Advanced Grip Control which provides extra traction during adverse weather conditions.

Peugeot 5008 Active

The Active trim is the entry-level trim for the Peugeot 5008 and comes packed with features and technology. In the cabin, the Active trim comes with an eight-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity and a cloth seat trim, making the seating look and feel more upmarket. The exterior features body-coloured bumpers to stand out on the road, roof rails to store bikes or roof boxes, front fog lights, parking sensors and 17-inch alloy wheels.


Peugeot 5008 Allure

The Allure trim adds some more premium and practical features to the Peugeot 5008. In the interior, seats come with a partial leather trim and extra lumbar support, rear seats get fold down trays and the front seat can be folded down like the rear seats to provide even more space for transporting items. Other interior features include a ten-inch infotainment screen with integrated sat nav, ambient interior lighting, air conditioning and window blinds, which help to keep the sun out the eyes of passengers. On the exterior, 18-inch alloy wheels provide extra handling and roof rails provide extra storage. The Allure also features keyless entry and rear and front parking sensors.


Peugeot 5008 GT

The GT trim is the sportier trim for the Peugeot 5008. Step inside the interior and you will find partial leather seats with a stylish copper stitching, front heated sport seats, a ten-inch infotainment screen with integrated sat nav, air conditioning and USB charging ports in the front and middle rows. The exterior features adaptive LED headlights, headlight washers, body-coloured bumpers and front fog lights. Other features include adaptive cruise control and parking sensors.


Peugeot 5008 GT Premium

The GT Premium adds some extra features that add greater luxury and convenience. In the interior the ten-inch infotainment screen comes with an upgraded Focal stereo system for better audio quality. The front seats are electrically adjustable and heated for extra comfort. Other features include an electric tailgate, allowing you to open the boot easily.
