What is the Škoda Fabia SE L?

The Škoda Fabia was first released in 1999 and is available as a saloon, hatchback and estate. Offering great practicality and an efficient drive, the Fabia’s all-rounder design makes it a great choice for families, commuting, city driving and routine journeys. For this reason, it is a worthy competitor to trims like the Renault Clio Play and Vauxhall Corsa Energy.

The SE L trim was first introduced in 2015 as part of the third generation’s trim lineup. While not initially included from the launch of the Mk3, it was added soon after its release. Offering a luxurious cabin with plenty of useful drive enhancing technology, the Škoda Fabia SE L strikes a good balance of style and practicality.

Škoda Fabia SE L history

One year after its release in 1999, the Škoda Fabia was awarded What Car?’s Car of the Year thanks to its efficient petrol and diesel engines and practical design. It received a facelift in 2004 which added new front and rear bumpers, revised the trim lineup and introduced new technology.

The Mk2 was released in 2007 and was larger than the Mk1. Its mid-life facelift in 2009 added the flagship Monte Carlo trim to the range. The Mk3 was launched in 2015 and was the first to feature the SE L trim.

Before the Monte Carlo trim was added to the Mk3, the SE L was the top-level trim and came with front fog lights as well as LED headlights. Inside, climate control, keyless entry, push-button start and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror rounded off its list of premium features.

While the Škoda Fabia SE L was available with all of the model’s entry-level engines, there were also a petrol and diesel unit that were exclusively reserved for the SE L trim and above. The 1.2-litre turbocharged TSI could output either 89bhp or 108bhp, while the 1.4-litre diesel TDI engine generated 104bhp.

The fourth generation of the Škoda Fabia arrived in 2021, with the SE L retained as a higher-level trim. Unlike the Mk3 version of the trim, the Mk4 SE L is only available with one engine. This is the 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine that generates 108bhp. This engine can be paired with a six-speed manual gearbox or a DSG automatic one.

Where does the Škoda Fabia SE L sit in the range?

Since its launch in 2015, the SE L trim sits at the higher end of the model’s trim range. In the Mk3, it sits above the entry-level trims like the S and SE thanks to its range of interior tech. It sits below the Colour Editon and Monte Carlo trims owing to their powerful engines and performance specs, as well as their interior design and technology.

In the Mk4, the SE L is once again a higher-level trim and sits above the S and SE Comfort, while below the Colour Edition and Monte Carlo.

What features and equipment does the Škoda Fabia SE L have?

The SE L trim benefits from a number of outer design features, including 16-inch silver alloy wheels. These are larger than the 15-inch wheels offered on the entry-level SE Comfort. There is also a chrome window surround, which adds a touch of style.

Inside, you’ll enjoy a truly premium cabin with comfortable upholstery and stylish, high-quality design running throughout. On the seats, there’s a comfortable soft fabric material in a contrasting grey and black colourway. This same fabric also features on the centre console where you’ll find the car’s infotainment system.

You’ll also find a front centre armrest for an even more comfortable drive. There are chrome-edged air vents that add a splash of style, while a metallic grey upper decorative trim adds interest to the interior. You will also find a textile microsuede decorative trim running throughout.

On the centre console, the Škoda Fabia SE L comes with a 9.2-inch Amundsen colour display, which is a notable upgrade when compared to the SE Comfort’s 6.2-inch display. This display also comes with voice controls, which let you easily control your car’s settings and features while keeping your gaze on the road.

You can look forward to plenty of drive-enhancing technology on the SE L, including a cruise control system with a speed limiter, a keyless engine with start/stop technology as standard and dual-zone climate control that features an Climatronic electronic control. There are electric windows in the front and rear, textile floormats and a handy umbrella storage slot in the side of the driver’s door.
