Grey Citroën C3 Aircross from the front

With its distinctive style, the Citroën C3 Aircross stands out from other compact crossovers in the segment. It was the first compact crossover Citroën brought to the market. Offering a spacious interior, good handling and Citroën’s French flair infused throughout the design.

The C3 Aircross is a confident competitor for other compact crossovers on the market including the Hyundai Kona, Kia Stonic, SEAT Arona, Renault Captur and many others. The C3 Aircross offers a good alternative to these models, with comprehensive kit levels and economical engine options that make it good value for money.

Citroën C3 Aircross updates and facelifts

First launched in 2017, the C3 Aircross received a facelift in 2021 which subtly redesigned the exterior and interior of the vehicle. Changes included a new front grille design, slimmer and more stylised headlights and some extra features in the interior such as an extra front cubby and upgraded memory foam seat cushions on the Shine Plus trim for enhanced comfort.

Practicality and style of the car

The C3 Aircross offers passengers a comfortable cabin. Keeping the cabin clutter-free is easy with door bins, two cupholders and handy storage cubbies throughout. Passengers over 6 feet tall will also find the rear seats comfortable with plenty of knee room on offer. Models with a panoramic sunroof may have less headroom in the rear.

The Citroën C3 Aircross offers a good-sized boot with a capacity of 410 litres which can be expanded to 1,289 litres by folding the rear seats down. The C3 Aircross offers more space than the SEAT Arona’s 400 litres and the Kia Stonic’s 352 litres. Citroën has designed this boot to be user-friendly. Incorporating a handy slot designed to store away the parcel shelf when it is not in use. The boot can also come with a ski hatch which is useful when transporting longer items. Other features include a sliding rear bench that expands the 410-litre boot by an extra 110 litres while keeping the rear seats in use.

The two petrol engines offered in the C3 Aircross also have light towing capacity. This means that braked trailers weighing up to 650kg and 850kg can be towed.

Running costs

Depending on the trim level and engine type, a used Citroën C3 Aircross will sit within insurance groups 6 to 20. In comparison to rivals, the Citroën C3 Aircross sits slightly lower than the Renault Captur which falls into groups 7 to 22. Road tax is also quite low, in comparison, being up to £180 per annum.

Interior

Citroën C3 Aircross interior front seats, centre console, gear selector, infotainment screen, steering wheel and dashboard

Both the passengers and the driver will find themselves comfortable in the C3 Aircross. The cabin offers a decent amount of legroom and headroom, and the seats are large and well-padded. On the Shine and Shine Plus, the Citroën C3 Aircross comes with memory foam-style upholstery. Providing users with even softer seats to make long journeys that bit more comfortable. There are also retractable blinds on the rear windows so that passengers can block out sunlight – this is especially useful for families with children.

The suspension set up on the Citroën C3 Aircross effectively dampens bumps on rough roads to ensure a smooth journey. Wind, road and engine noise are reduced in the interior, making motorway travel more peaceful and enjoyable.

There are plenty of handy cubbies and storage space in the cabin so you can stow away any personal items. There is a good-sized glovebox and a cubby at the front of the centre console, which is well-suited for stowing your smartphone. There is also a couple of cupholders, door bins and a lidded storage bin that can be accessed from both the front and the rear. For the rear passengers, pockets on the back of the front seats provide a convenient space to store onboard entertainment devices and door bins provide enough space for drinks bottles.

The interior of the C3 Aircross is simple yet stylish. Finished with soft-touch materials on both the dashboard and seats, the interior is comfortable and makes for a pleasurable driving experience. On the dashboard, an infotainment screen sits in the centre and can come in two sizes depending on the trim level of the car. On the C-Series trim, you get a seven-inch screen, while the Shine and Shine Plus trims both come with a nine-inch screen.

Some C3 Aircross models can come with a head up display which projects important information, such as your speed, onto a glass panel in front of the driver to prevent the need to look away from the road.
