Launched in 2020, the CUPRA Formentor was one of the first bespoke models available from CUPRA after its split with SEAT in 2018. Practicality and style of the car

Depending on which engine you opt for, you can get up to 450 litres of boot space in the Formentor. Hybrid models offer a decent 345 litres and four-wheel drive engines offer 420 litres. This is bigger than the SEAT Leon’s 380 litres. You can also expand the boot further by folding down the 60/40 split-folding rear seats.

When loading items into the back there is a slight lip to the boot which helps to keep items in the boot when opening it. To further help with securing items in the boot, tethering points and a ski hatch help to fit bulky or long items into the back.

For hauling, the CUPRA Formentor can tow up to 1,800kg with its petrol engines and up to 1,500kg with its hybrid engines. This is enough for towing a small trailer or caravan.

Running costs

The Formentor sits in insurance groups 19 to 33 and has a road tax between £170 to £570. As a sportier model than most SUVs, the CUPRA Formentor offers drivers a more premium driving experience full of features, technology and high-quality materials.

How a used CUPRA Formentor drives

There are a series of petrol and hybrid engines available on a CUPRA Formentor, all of which perform well.

The petrol range starts off with a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, which can put down up to 148bhp. This can come in either manual or automatic transmission. Next, is the 2.0-litre four-cylinder, which is available in two versions either 187bhp or 242bhp. The 187bhp version can come with four-wheel drive.

Lastly, there is also a 2.0-litre TSI four-cylinder petrol engine which can put down up to 306bhp. This engine provides good power for overtaking on motorways and achieves 0 to 62mph in just 4.9 seconds.

There are two hybrid engines available which both use a 1.4-litre petrol engine paired with a 13kWh battery with an electric motor. One puts down 201bhp and 350Nm of torque, while the other offers 242bhp and 400Nm of torque. These are available with a manual gearbox.

Features you can expect in a CUPRA Formentor

The Formentor comes with sharp and stylish bodywork with a large front grille featuring the distinctive copper CUPRA badge, plus striking angular LED headlights on either side. Technology

Located on the dashboard is a central 12-inch touchscreen infotainment display which comes with a minimalist design that makes the menus easy to navigate. Other features available depending on the trim level include three-zone climate control, keyless entry, heated seats, a heated steering wheel (available with models that have a DSG gearbox) and comfortable sports seats.

Storage is also plentiful inside the cabin. In the front, there are deep door bins, two cupholders, a handy cubby in the front of the centre console and storage space within the armrest. For rear passengers, deep door bins provide a good amount of space for personal items to be stored, helping to keep the cabin clutter-free.

Passengers will find they have plenty of headroom and legroom. The seats in both the rear and the front provide a good amount of support to ensure long journeys are comfortable. When driving, the engine is well-hushed to provide a peaceful ride for passengers, and the suspension absorbs bumps and rough roads well. On higher trim levels, different drive modes allow for the adaptive dampeners to be adjusted to provide a firm or soft ride. The different drive modes also enable the driver to tailor the car to their preferred driving style for the journey ahead.

Safety

The CUPRA Formentor scored five stars on the Euro NCAP crash test. The Formentor also scored highly on occupant protection, awarded 93% on adult protection and 88% on child protection. The CUPRA Formentor performs better than the Peugeot 408 which scored 76% and 84% for adult and child protection respectively. It closely matches the performance of the SEAT Leon, Mercedes-Benz GLA and BMW X3.

Safety features available on a used CUPRA Formentor include autonomous safety braking and pedestrian detection, which automatically brakes if it detects a pedestrian in front of the car and lane-keep assist. Trims available on the CUPRA Formentor

CUPRA Formentor V1

The V1 is the entry-level trim for the Formentor and comes with a good range of features and technology. The interior includes a 12-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and an integrated sat nav, a wireless smartphone charger, interior ambient lighting and a digital cockpit. On the exterior, you will find LED front and rear headlights, automatic wipers and 18-inch alloy wheels. CUPRA Formentor V2

The V2 trim adds some more premium features to the CUPRA Formentor to enhance the driving experience. The V2 also adds 19-inch alloy wheels, a reversing camera, electric folding mirrors and park assist help you to get into smaller parking spaces.

CUPRA Formentor VZ1

The VZ1 provides a sportier ride for drivers with features that help to improve performance and handling. These include dynamic chassis control that enables you to change the driving style by adapting the performance of the dampers and steering. Three modes are available; Normal, Sport and Comfort. Speed-sensitive power steering, sports suspension and 19-inch alloy wheels also feature on the VZ1 trim. Other features include a rear diffuser with a single exhaust pipe on either side of the vehicle, blind spot monitoring, an electric tailgate and exit assist, which warns passengers of approaching vehicles before exiting the vehicle.
