CUPRA (pronounced KOO – pruh) began its journey in 1985 as SEAT Sport. The brand spearheaded SEAT's rally championship endeavours. CUPRA derives its name from the phrase ‘Cup Racing’. In 2018 it became a standalone brand, marking a significant shift in both its own role and that of SEAT. The first vehicle to bear the marque’s bronze emblem was the CUPRA Ateca. It was still based on the SEAT model but carried plenty of its own styling and badging. Later came two all-new vehicles: the Formentor and the Born.

  

The brand’s focus has been on performance and racing vehicles since its launch. The manufacturer also benefits from the associated reputation of engineering quality of Volkswagen.
