The G15 Youth Project, a Drumchapel based youth group, has been awarded £5000 by the Sir Arnold Clark Summer Camp Fund. The fund was launched in April 2018 by Radio Clyde Cash for Kids in memory of one of Scotland’s great philanthropists – Sir Arnold Clark.

Community groups working with disadvantaged young people aged between 12–15 around Glasgow and the west of Scotland were invited to apply for £5000 of funding as well as valuable work experience for 10 young people at Arnold Clark’s head office in Hillington.

On 4th July, Clyde 1 Home Run presenters Grant Thomson and Amber Livingstone visited the G15 Youth Project to make the announcement and hand over the £5000 cheque. A number of applications were received by the closing date on 1st June with the G15 Youth Project selected by a panel featuring representatives from Arnold Clark and Radio Clyde Cash for Kids.

Eddie Hawthorne, Arnold Clark Chief Executive and Group Managing Director, said: 'Arnold Clark is thrilled to present a cheque for £5000 to the G15 Youth Project in Drumchapel. The team submitted a fantastic application to the Sir Arnold Clark Summer Camp Fund with Cash for Kids and I know this money will be used to really benefit children in the area. Sir Arnold Clark was a big supporter of providing opportunities to young people and my colleagues and I are very proud to be able to help G15 with this donation.'

The youth group intend to use the fund to provide 40 young people with residential sleepovers on adventure weekends in Aberfoyle and Millport where they’ll enjoy activities including biking, canoeing and watersports. These activities are designed to challenge anti-social behaviour as well as teaching invaluable life skills such as first aid.

Joyce Bell, Project Co-ordinator at G15 Youth Project, said, ‘G15 Youth Project is delighted to be recognised by Arnold Clark. The award gives us more scope to plan a programme of activities particularly for young people and deliver a fun-packed residential camp. This goes towards building and developing young people’s confidence, planning skills and working together with others.’

Later in the year, 10 young people from the project will be welcomed to Arnold Clark’s Hillington head office for a work experience programme. There, they will gain firsthand experience of marketing, communications, design and digital programming and discover the wide range of career opportunities available within the automotive industry.
