For used BMW X2 cars, choose Arnold Clark

Stylish, sporty and premium, the BMW X2 has redefined the SUV with its sloping roof and performance-focused edge. You have the best of both worlds with a used BMW X2: a sporty thrill with practical features, making this car attractive to many.

BMW X2 updates and facelifts

Introduced in 2018, BMW refers to it as a Sports Activity Coupe, and it received its first facelift in 2019. Based on its previous model, the BMW X1, the X2 appeals to drivers seeking a more playful experience from their car.

The X2 rides lower than the X1, giving drivers a closer feel of the road that most SUVs can’t provide. Defined by its new aesthetics, the X2 has sporty trim panels and squared wheel arches, making it an exciting choice within its class against the Audi Q2, Mercedes-Benz GLA, and Jaguar E-Pace.

Despite its athletic side, the BMW X2 still provides ample space and storage for all your family and travelling needs. To back up its unique X2 character, there are six engines to choose from, with petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid options. Entry-level trims come with two-wheel drive, while more executive trims provide all-wheel drive.

You’ll find six available trims with the BMW X2, while cars after 2019 will benefit from a facelift that includes the Sport, M Sport, and G350i. These trims have petrol or hybrid plug-in engines. A BMW X2 has its own defining character that stands out from the crowd – perfect for anyone seeking an added thrill on their day-to-day commute or family trips.

Practicality and style of the car

With 470 litres of boot space, the BMW X2 competes well against most family hatchbacks. Compared to its rival, the Audi Q2, which has a 405-litre boot capacity, the BMW X2 is an excellent choice for those needing more storage space compared to others in its class. There are 1,355 litres of space with folded seats, with added room under the boot floor for an optional spare wheel.

You will find ISOFIX anchors for child seats on the outer rear seats on all trims, meaning a family with two children can enjoy the school run and family trips away with peace of mind.

Alongside its sportiness and energetic feel, the BMW X2 is still highly practical. It has a towing capacity of 1,700kg for braking trailers with the petrol sDrive18i engine and 1,800kg with the xDrive20i engine. You can easily tow additional goods, like boats and jet skis, alongside most mid-sized caravans.

Running costs

Depending on the trim and engine, a BMW X2’s running costs can be kept to a minimum. The three-cylinder petrol sDrive18i engine is the most fuel-efficient option, achieving 45.6mpg. For maximum efficiency, the plug-in hybrid xDrive25e engine can achieve impressive figures too. The petrol hybrid with a fully charged battery delivers up to 166.2mpg.

Insurance groups range from 22 to 40 (out of 50) across all trims. Road tax will set you back between £180 and £570. With regular care, your used BMW X2 maintenance costs can be kept down, with independent garages offering competitive servicing rates.

How a used BMW X2 drives

The BMW offers six possible engines with three fuel types: petrol, diesel, and hybrid plug-in. But since its facelift in 2019, and the decline in demand for diesel cars, it now only offers petrol and hybrid plug-in engines on its trims.

The 18i, 20i and top-of-the-range M35i are petrol-powered engines. The entry-level sDrive18i produces 134bhp and performs 0-62mph in 9.6 seconds. The xDrive20 comes with four-wheel drive and achieves 0-62mph in 7.3 seconds. The flagship M35i, thanks to its four-wheel drive, produces 302bhp and 405Nm of torque. Rather impressively, the M35i reaches 62mph in under 5 seconds. You will find these engines with a manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The most powerful M35i engine is automatic only.

Combining a three-cylinder 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor and a 10kWh battery, the plug-in hybrid xDrive25e produces a total of 217bhp and 385Nm of torque. Its all-wheel drive means it reaches 62mph in 6.8 seconds with a top speed of 121mph.

Only found in trims before the 2019 facelift, the 20d engine achieves 190bhp and 400Nm of torque, reaching 62mph in 7.7 seconds. The 18d produces 148bhp with a 0-62mph time of 9.7 seconds. Eight-speed automatic or standard six-speed manual gearboxes are found with these engines.

Features you can expect in a BMW X2

The BMW X2’s design is similar to the previous X1 model but with an exciting edge. Shorter overhangs on the front and rear wheelbases and a sloping roofline make this model far sportier than previous designs or its competitors.

Interior

Drivers and passengers of the BMW X2 are treated to supported and comfortable seating with a wide range of adjustments. Even the tallest drivers won't struggle for room in this car. Most trims have sturdy and sleek cloth seats, but flagship M35i trims benefit from supportive bucket seats that cradle all drivers comfortably, even when travelling long distances. With two ISOFIX points for child seats on the wider rear seats, young families of two adults and two children or four adults will fit comfortably with plenty of room for belongings.

Technology

Its sleek interior is accompanied by a tidy centre panel and a digital instrument panel, like that of Audi’s Virtual Cockpit system. BMW has provided impressive technology throughout that assists driving and keeps passengers entertained. All X2 trims have an 8.8-inch infotainment touchscreen system with a built-in sat nav. You can operate these with the BMW rotary iDrive dial, giving you easy access and fuss-free control.

You will also find Apple CarPlay as standard across all trims, keeping the whole family happy on the way to school or travelling cross country and letting you communicate safely. Some premium trims have keyless entry, electric front seats with memory function and a heated steering wheel.

Safety

The BMW X2 scores an impressive five stars from Euro NCAP. It scored 90% for adult occupants, 87% for child occupants, 74% for pedestrian safety, and 77% for its overall safety assist systems. With such a high rating, this car is a great choice for drivers wanting a highly equipped car designed to keep everybody safe.

You will find plenty of standard safety technology on all trims, which includes forward vehicle collision warnings, autonomous city braking up to 30mph, BMW emergency call, attentiveness assistant and a misfuelling system. With all these standard features, BMW has your safety taken care of to offer an easy and comfortable ride every time.

Trims available on the BMW X2

BMW X2 Sport

The Sport trim is the BMW’s entry-level trim following its 2019 facelift. This trim has black external cladding and pristine cloth-trimmed seats. Despite its entry-level position, it hosts impressive features including alloy wheels, a sat nav, an electric driver's seat and mirrors, cruise control and air conditioning. Drivers of the Sport trim will also benefit from the audio remote control and steering-wheel rake and reach adjustments that are available. With competitive standard features like these, it's unsurprising that the BMW X2 Sport is a top choice for many in the market.

BMW X2 M Sport

The M Sport is the X2’s mid-range trim and has a different exterior look than the Sport trim, with matching body and cladding paint. The M Sport adds another level of finesse. In addition to the features in the Sport trim, this benefits from upgraded leather-trimmed seats and remote locking.

BMW X2 M35i

The M35i is the X2’s flagship standalone trim that gets its own distinct and sportier styling, with all the same internal enhancements as the M Sport.
