Arnold Clark were delighted to host the UK’s first-ever, fully electric Motability scheme event last month.

The Arnold Clark Motability Experience, a first of its kind, took place at the Innovation Centre in Glasgow on Friday 17th June.

We welcomed visitors from across the UK to the Innovation Centre, where they were able to find out more about the Motability scheme, which helps customers get mobile by exchanging their qualifying mobility allowance for a new, affordable car.

During the event, customers were given an in-depth tour of the Arnold Clark Innovation Centre to learn about how electric is shaping the future of driving and to get tips for charging at home or on the road.

Next, they took part in a Q&A session with our Innovation Centre geniuses to discuss all things electric, while our Motability specialists were also on hand to chat about what adaptions could be made to the cars to suit various lifestyles.

Finally, customers also had the chance to test-drive an electric car of their choice.

Richard Kennedy, Head of Business at Arnold Clark, hailed the day as a success and is looking forward to similar events in the future.

He said: ‘It was a great educational day for our Motability customers and it would be excellent to have more like that.

‘Electric vehicles are the way forward, so it was great to give our customers the chance to learn more about them.

‘The product geniuses at the Innovation Centre are so knowledgeable and we had brilliant feedback about their tours.

‘It was also great to give customers the opportunity to test-drive a wide range of vehicles’

Linsey Mackie, Dealer Partner Manager at Motability Operations, encouraged members of the public to visit the Innovation Centre to find out more about the automotive industry’s move towards electric.

She said: ‘The tours in the Innovation Centre are amazing and it's a really good opportunity for Motability customers to come and ask questions and understand more about electric vehicles.

‘I'd urge Motability customers to talk to the product geniuses at the Innovation Centre. Switching to electric is a big change for people and there's understandably some hesitation, but it's great to have a space like the Innovation Centre where people can ask any questions and get the information they need. It's an incredible facility.’

Allan Currie, a member of the Motability Scheme, admits attending the event has given him a better understanding of EVs.

He said: 'I was sceptical about moving to electric, but this event has really opened my eyes.

'I feel a lot more relaxed about making the switch to electric. I've learned about how electric cars work and how to charge them.

'Seeing the range of some of the cars and being able to test-drive them has been a real eye-opener. It's been great to speak to the team at the Innovation Centre and get some information. It’s the best way to learn.'

The Arnold Clark Innovation Centre opened last year on Dumbarton Road in Glasgow’s West End with the aim of educating visitors about the benefits of alternative fuel vehicles and why they are becoming so important.

There are more than 60 vehicles on site available to test-drive, from plug-in and self-charging hybrids to fully electric vehicles.

There are no sales at the site, which is specifically an innovation, information, and educational centre.

You can also learn about the different types of charging and generous government tax and grants available.

We have also recently opened a second Innovation Centre in Stafford, England.
