Arnold Clark has been named Electric Vehicle Retailer of the Year at this year's Motor Trader Awards.

The accolade, which was a new category for this year, recognises and rewards outstanding excellence across marketing, aftersales, new and used electric vehicle (EV) sales and training.

With a strong focus on education, we have significantly invested across all areas of the business to prepare for the shift towards electric vehicles. This includes rolling out EV training across the whole Group, investing in a Group-wide charging infrastructure and forming a series of notable partnerships within the EV industry, as well as pushing to have every branch accredited through the EVA scheme.

We understand the transport industry is undergoing a massive shift – and our aim is to be at the forefront of that change. In 2021, the Group sales of alternatively fuelled vehicles doubled from 2020.

We have showcased our commitment to the EV journey through our ‘Road to 2030’ strategy, which informs all areas of the business to ensure we meet government requirements and sell the right car to the right person at the right time.

The award also celebrates our commitment and investment in upskilling both the Arnold Clark workforce and the public in their understanding of alternatively fuelled vehicles through the launch of our Innovation Centre in Glasgow and its sister site in Stafford.

Arnold Clark Chief Executive Eddie Hawthorne responded to the award win and said: 'It really is a great honour to pick up this award and be the first to win it.

'We have set ourselves apart from our competitors with our strategy regarding the switch to electric.

'The move to EVs is an ongoing journey, and we have more exciting plans in the pipeline, so watch this space.’

Last year, after a £5 million investment, Arnold Clark opened their first Innovation Centre in Glasgow with the aim of educating visitors about the benefits of alternative fuel vehicles and why they are becoming so important.

There are no sales at the site, which is specifically an innovation, information, and educational centre.

Visitors can also learn about the different types of charging and generous government tax and grants available for those thinking of moving to electric.

The motor industry gathered at the iconic Grosvenor House in London on Wednesday, November 23rd for the 2022 Motor Trader Awards ceremony.
