What is the Vehicle Technician salary?

At Arnold Clark, we offer our mechanics £40k – 50k per year, with the opportunity to earn up to £9,000 in performance bonus payments every three years.

What is the difference between Level 2 and Level 3 Vehicle Technicians?

Level 2 Vehicle Technicians are known at Arnold Clark as Used Vehicle Preparation Technicians and would have a minimum of two years’ previous experience in a vehicle workshop environment, plus a minimum Level 2 Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair. Meanwhile, our Level 3 Vehicle Technicians would require a certificate in Light Vehicle Maintenance Level 3 and previous experience in the automotive industry.

What does a Vehicle Technician do at Arnold Clark?

Day-to-day jobs include:

  • Carrying out servicing, repairs and maintenance to high standards
  • Inspecting vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately, using computer-based diagnostic equipment
  • Repairing or replacing broken or defective parts and resolving defects
  • Carrying out DVSA vehicle testing (if authorised)
  • Road-testing vehicles to check repairs
  • Maintaining equipment and making sure tools are in good condition
  • Following checklists to ensure all procedures are completed
  • Completing all documentation to the required standard
