What is the Audi Q2 S Line?

The Audi Q2 S Line is one of the most popular trim levels across the Audi range. Adding upmarket tech features and automated driver assistance, the S Line ramps up the offering of an already highly popular luxury SUV.

The Audi Q2 was introduced to the UK market in 2016. A stylish SUV, it combines the practical size of a larger vehicle while retaining the pace and power of some of its smaller counterparts. As the smallest SUV in the Audi range – which includes the Q3, Q5, Q7 and Q8 – the Q2 is dynamic and sporty, possessing the boxy style of its cohorts that offers significant kerb appeal.

Like the rest of the trims in the Q2 range, the S Line is a great family car, and is well suited to long motorway drives that require maximum comfort and enjoyment for all occupants. With extra features included on the Q2’s S Line trim, like part-leather seats and integrated sat nav, the driving experience is enhanced in true Audi fashion. Its boxy design paired with its aggressive grille and lavish interior make the S Line a key player in the luxury compact SUV market, heading up against the likes of the MINI Clubman, BMW X2 M Sport and Mercedes-Benz GLA AMG Line.

Audi Q2 S Line history

The Audi Q2 Mk1 arrived on the UK market in 2016 to widespread acclaim. Offering a smaller and slightly more affordable SUV option compared to other larger vehicles in the Audi line up, the Q2 had broad appeal from the outset.

The S Line was a higher-entry trim level from the start on the Q2. The trim lineup started with the entry-level SE, while the Sport added features like sport suspension and larger alloy wheels. The S Line is a step up again, adding aesthetic improvements to the exterior, like model-specific bumpers and blacked-out door pillars, as well as large 18-inch alloy wheels. Engine options on the S Line range from the entry-level 1.0-litre TFSI petrol to a larger and more powerful 1.4-litre version, as well as the more economical 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre TDI diesel.

A mid-life update in 2020 saw the overall styling of the Q2 Mk1 refreshed, while entry-level trims were given extra features and tech to add to their appeal. This update also saw the remodelling of the trim structure. The entry-level trim became the Technik, ditching the SE name altogether. However, the S Line remained high up the trim levels, still second only to the Black Edition as the top option.

In 2022, it was announced that the Q2 would be discontinued at the end of the Mk1’s life cycle. That said, it remained highly popular with buyers and critics, in part thanks to its mid-life update, and was awarded the What Car? Award for Best Small SUV Interior 2023.

Where does the Audi Q2 S Line sit in the range?

The S Line trims across the Audi range tend to offer a range of upgrades on the entry-level trim of each model. Generally considered to add a sportier look and feel, as well as a host of drive-enhancing tech features, the S Line sits above the entry-level and often towards the top of the trim levels.

This can certainly be said of the Audi Q2 S Line, which sit just below the top of the range Black Edition trim, sitting above the Technik and the Sport.

What features and equipment does the Audi Q2 S Line have?

The Audi Q2 S Line is a premium, compact SUV that has a wealth of attractive features and equipment. As a higher-entry trim option, the S Line really enhances the driving experience for both passengers and driver. A subtle body kit sets the S Line apart from lower entry trims, adding sportier styling and larger 18-inch alloy wheels. LED lights are added to the front and rear, while cruise control comes as standard.

Inside, the Q2 S Line includes an 8.3-inch infotainment system, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, giving the cabin an ultra-modern feel.

Practicality-wise, the tailgate of the S Line is electronically powered, which is helpful when loading heavy items into the boot. It comes with a sport suspension option too, to give drivers more autonomy over the way the Q2 handles the roads. Rear parking sensors are also added, helping drivers manoeuvre into tighter spaces.

Safety-wise, the Q2 itself was given a five-star safety rating by Euro NCAP, which is especially encouraging for those with families. The S Line trim adds blind spot monitoring and rear traffic alerts, as well as lane keeping assistance. Automatic emergency braking is standard across the Q2 range – as are ISOFIX points in the rear, which enable safe installation of child seats.
