What do our Car Mechanics do?

Our car mechanics work on a range of different duties at Arnold Clark, everything from routine servicing, road tests and Mots to prepping sales cars for our forecourts. We also have both day and night shift jobs available with competitive salaries.

Day Shift Vehicle Mechanic

Salary: up to £14.50 per hour

Additional bonuses to enhance your pay.


  • Monday – Thursday 8am – 5.30pm, Friday 8am – 4.30pm,
  • Every second Saturday at time and a half enhanced rates
  • 33 days' annual leave
  • Toolbox cover (Insure your toolbox up to £20,000)

Night Shift Vehicle Mechanic

Salary: up to £17.50 per hour

Additional bonuses to enhance your pay.


  • Monday – Thursday, 7:30pm – 7am
  • No weekend shifts
  • 26.5 days' annual leave
  • Toolbox cover (Insure your toolbox up to £20,000)

Train to become a qualified Electric Vehicle Mechanic

Young mechanics

We want all our mechanics to be trained in the most up to date technologies. All our mechanics train as qualified electric vehicle mechanics. This gives them a IMI Level 3 award in electric/Hybrid Vehicle system repairs and replacement (VRQ) qualification. What you’ll learn on the 2 day course:

  • How to work safely on electric/hybrid vehicles high voltage systems
  • The ability to carry out routine maintenance checks.
  • Gain knowledge and skills to work safely around a vehicle with damage to its high energy/electrical systems.
  • Have the skills to record and make suitable recommendations following diagnostic checks.

We also offer a range of other training and development opportunities for our mechanics. These include standard manufacturer training.

Vehicle Mechanic Apprenticeships

We recruit over 200 apprentices every year. Our apprenticeships include: Light Vehicle Mechanic (LVM), Bodyshop, Alarm engineering and Customer Services. Applications open in May and November each year to start in September and March.
